The Kyogle Examiner
The ''Kyogle Examiner'', was an English language newspaper, published from 1905 in Kyogle, New South Wales, Kyogle, New South Wales, Australia. History The first edition of the paper was published in December 1905. The paper was issued in twice weekly, Wednesday and Saturday editions, until 1971. After this time, the paper was issued weekly, until 1978. The paper was circulated throughout the Kyogle and Upper Richmond district, and early editions of the paper were issued with the subtitle "and Upper Richmond Advocate". The first proprietor of the paper was Ernest Lloyd Vincent, who owned the paper until 1935. In 1978, the paper was absorbed into the ''Richmond River Express Examiner'', which is now published as The Northern Star, in Lismore, New South Wales, Lismore, New South Wales. Kyogle () is a town in the Northern Rivers region of northern New South Wales, Australia. It falls within the local government area of Kyogle Council. At the 2016 census, Kyogle had a population of 2,751 people. Kyogle is known as a "gateway" to many national parks including Border Ranges National Park and Toonumbar National Park. History It was founded in the 1830s as a lumber camp, and is located north of Sydney, north of Casino on the Summerland Way close to the Queensland border. It also lies on the banks of the Richmond River. It is the seat of its own shire. Kyogle comes from the Aboriginal Australian 'Bundjalung' word Gayugul, meaning 'Brolga', a reference to the Australian Brolga which is indigenous to the region. Cattle grazing, dairy farming and forestry are the primary industries. ''The Richmond River Express Examiner'' was a weekly newspaper published in Casino, New South Wales, Australia. It has been previously published as ''The Richmond River Express'', ''The Kyogle Examiner'', '' The Rosolen Press '', ''The Richmond River Express and Casino Kyogle Advertiser'' and ''The Richmond River Express and Tweed Advertiser''. History ''The Richmond River Express and Tweed Advertiser'' was Casino's first newspaper and was first published on 23 December 1870 by Robert Gordon Balmer. In 1904 the name was changed to ''The Richmond River Express and Casino Kyogle Advertiser'' which was shortened to ''The Richmond River Express'' in 1929. The ''Express'' was published as a daily from 1929 to 1955 when a fire destroyed the printing plant. In 1978 the ''Express'' merged with ''The Kyogle Examiner'' and became ''The Richmond River Express Examiner''. The ''Examiner'' is currently published by '' The Northern Star''.
