The Kyiv Independent
''The Kyiv Independent'' is an English-language Ukraine, Ukrainian online newspaper founded in 2021 by former staff of the ''Kyiv Post'' and media consultancy Jnomics Media. The online newspaper is also active on Twitter. Founding In October 2021, disputes arose between employees of the ''Kyiv Post'' and the owner of the newspaper. Behind them, journalists at the newspaper believed that even under presidency of Volodymyr Zelenskyy, their previous critical reporting was adversely affecting the business of the owner, who had bought the newspaper from Mohammad Zahoor in March 2018, and invested significant funds in the barely profitable newspaper. The owner is Syrian-born major investor Adnan Kivan (Kadorr Group, which owns Channel Odessa 7). Olga Rudenko
Olga Rudenko (born 1989) is a Ukraine, Ukrainian journalist who worked for ''Kyiv Post'' before leaving to assist in the establishment of the ''The Kyiv Independent, Kyiv Independent'' in 2021, where she is the editor-in-chief. Her work has also been published in a number of major Western news outlets, including the Washington Times, the Global Post and USA Today. In 2022, Rudenko featured as the front cover image on ''Time (magazine), Time magazine's'' May double issue. Early life Rudenko's father died when she was four years old. Her mother raised her on her own in Dnipro. Although encouraged to follow an economics career, she chose journalism instead, which she studied at the city's university. Kyiv Offensive (2022)
The Kyiv offensive was a theater in the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine. It involved attacks by Russia across the Russo-Ukrainian and Belarusian–Ukrainian borders beginning on 24 February 2022 for the control of Kyiv and its surrounding areas. Russian operations around Kyiv saw the occupation of parts of neighbouring Zhytomyr Oblast as well. Kyiv is the capital city of Ukraine, and houses the headquarters for the Ukrainian government and military command. Russian forces initially successfully captured several towns and cities in Kyiv Oblast. However, the offensive stalled over logistical and tactical issues.
