''The King's Dragon'' is the 41st ''Doctor Who'' ''New Series Adventures'' novel published on 8 July 2010 by BBC Books and written by Una McCormack. It features the Eleventh Doctor with Amy Pond and Rory Williams as his companions. Synopsis The Doctor, Amy and Rory arrive in the city-state of Geath, where it appears that everyone is happy and rich. However, they discover that there are secrets and creatures hidden, as well as a metal dragon that oozes gold. A Herald appears demanding the return of her treasure and a battle for possession of the treasure begins. The Doctor, Amy and Rory must save the people of the city before they are destroyed by the war. Reception Jonathan Wilkins of Total Sci-Fi Online gave the book 8 out of 10, calling it a "fun fantasy-tinged tale" and "groundbreaking" for ''Doctor Who'' as it included more fantasy. ''Doctor Who'' is a British science fiction television series broadcast by the BBC since 1963. The series depicts the adventures of a Time Lord called the Doctor, an extraterrestrial being who appears to be human. The Doctor explores the universe in a time-travelling space ship called the TARDIS. Jonathan Wilkins
Jonathan Wilkins is an English ballroom dancer and dance teacher, born in London. He holds many titles in Professional Ballroom Dancing including being ten times Professional Ballroom Champion, 1997–2007 (in a partnership with Katusha Demidova which lasted eleven years, and brought considerable success). In 2004 they won the World Classic Showdance Championship, which is one of the subsidiary World Dance Council Dance Sport events. Their final result was to win the WDC Open Professional Ballroom title at the USA Open in Orlando, Florida 2007. From November 2007, Wilkins danced with Hazel Newberry. In the long-running BBC science fiction on television, television science fiction programme ''Doctor Who'' and related works, the term "companion" refers to a character who travels or shares adventures with the Doctor (Doctor Who), Doctor. In most ''Doctor Who'' stories, the primary companion acts as an audience surrogate. They provide the lens through which the viewer is introduced to the series. Una McCormack
Una McCormack (born 13 January 1972) is a British-Irish academic, scriptwriter and novelist. She is the author of ''The Baba Yaga'' (2015) and ''The Star of the Sea'' (2016), two books in the ''Weird Space'' series from UK science fiction publisher Abaddon Books. McCormack taught at Anglia Ruskin University, as a lecturer in creative writing. She was also a co-director of the Anglia Ruskin University Centre for Science Fiction and Fantasy. She is best known as the author of numerous tie-in novels based on the science fiction TV series ''Star Trek'' and ''Doctor Who''.
