Overview This album was issued in the UK by United Artists Records in 1979 and was the second Kenny Rogers album to reach the pop UK Albums Chart Top 2 It featured every one of his singles to make the UK Singles Chart, UK Pop Top 75 to that point. It is fairly similar to 1977's ''Ten Years Of Gold'' album issued in the United States, but it featured four more songs that were hits in 1978, such as "The Gambler" and "She Believes In Me". In Australia, the album was issued with the same track listing and album art and was known as ''The Best of Kenny Rogers'' and peaked at number 4 on the charts. Kenneth Ray Rogers (August 21, 1938 – March 20, 2020) was an American singer, songwriter, and actor. He was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2013. ''The First Edition'' is the debut studio album by the group the First Edition. Kenny Rogers sang the lead vocals on two tracks "Just Dropped In (To See What Condition My Condition Was In)" and "Dream On". "Just Dropped In (To See What Condition My Condition Was In)" became the only hit single from the album and marked the start of things to come, with Rogers soon becoming the lead singer of the group and the group being renamed "Kenny Rogers & the First Edition". This album was re-issued as a 180 Gram Limited Edition by Golden Lane Records in 2010 (as #CLP-LP-1822). The Kent Music Report was a weekly record chart of Australian music singles and albums which was compiled by music enthusiast David Kent from May 1974 through to January 1999. The chart was re-branded the Australian Music Report (AMR) in July 1987. From June 1988, the Australian Recording Industry Association, which had been using the top 50 portion of the report under licence since mid-1983, chose to produce their own listing as the ARIA Charts. Before the Kent Report, ''Go-Set'' magazine published weekly Top-40 Singles from 1966, and Album charts from 1970 until the magazine's demise in August 1974. David Kent later published Australian charts from 1940 to 1973 in a retrospective fashion, using state by state chart data obtained from various Australian radio stations. ''The Gambler'' is the sixth studio album by Kenny Rogers, released by United Artists in November 1978. One of his most popular, it has established Rogers' status as one of the most successful artists of the 1970s and 1980s. "The Gambler" is a song written by Don Schlitz and recorded by several artists, most famously by American country singer Kenny Rogers. Schlitz wrote the song in August 1976 when he was 23 years old. It took two years of shopping the song around Nashville before Bobby Bare recorded it on his album ''Bare'' at the urging of Shel Silverstein. Bare's version did not catch on and was never released as a single, so Schlitz recorded it himself, but that version failed to chart higher than No. 65. Other musicians took notice and recorded the song in 1978, including Johnny Cash, who put it on his album '' Gone Girl''. It was Rogers, however, who made the song a mainstream success. ''Love or Something Like It'' is the fifth studio album by country music superstar Kenny Rogers, released in 1978. It was Rogers' fourth #1 hit album. Overview The album's title cut ("Love or Something Like It") also topped the charts. Though this was the only single to be issued from the album, another cut, "Momma's Waiting" (written by Rogers), was issued on the B-side of a 1978 major hit single, " The Gambler". "Momma's Waiting" was originally recorded by Rogers and The First Edition in 1970. The song "We Could Have Been The Closest of Friends" was also recorded by a number of other artists including B J Thomas, Sammy Davis Jr. and Tom Jones.
