''The Jewish Week'' is a weekly independent community newspaper targeted towards the Jewish community of the metropolitan New York City area. ''The Jewish Week'' covers news relating to the Jewish community in NYC. In March 2016, ''The Jewish Week'' announced its partnership with the online newspaper ''The Times of Israel''. Later in 2016, ''The Jewish Week'' acquired the ''New Jersey Jewish News''. In July 2020, ''The Jewish Week'' suspended publication of its weekly print publication, and in January 2021 announced its acquisition by 70 Faces Media, the publisher of the Jewish Telegraphic Agency and other Jewish brands, under whose umbrella it continues as an all-digital brand. Editorial staff Gary Rosenblatt was the editor and publisher from 1993 to 2019. Andrew Silow-Carroll took over in September 2019. ''Lashon hara'' (or ''loshon horo'', or ''loshon hora'') ( he, לשון הרע; "evil tongue") is the halakhic term for speech about a person or persons that is negative or harmful to them, even though it is true. Orthodox Judaism
Orthodox Judaism is the collective term for the traditionalist and theologically conservative branches of contemporary Judaism. Theologically, it is chiefly defined by regarding the Torah, both Written and Oral, as revealed by God to Moses on Mount Sinai and faithfully transmitted ever since. The Journalism Center on Children & Families is a nonprofit program of the Philip Merrill College of Journalism at the University of Maryland, College Park. Phillip Ritzenberg
Phillip Ritzenberg (June 22, 1931 – May 26, 2022) was an American journalist. He was known for his work on the newspaper '' New York Daily News'' and ''The Jewish Week''. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, the son of Gertrude and Jack Ritzenberg, Ritzenberg attended Case Western Reserve University, where he graduated in 1953. He then attended the Humboldt University of Berlin on a Fulbright scholarship. Ritzenberg served as a United States Navy officer on the aircraft carrier USS Midway (CV-41). He was also a reserve officer at Floyd Bennett Field in Brooklyn. Ritzenberg worked at his father's printing shop. Ritzenberg worked as a journalist and assistant managing editor for the '' New York Daily News''. He left in 1982 to work as a journalist for ''The Jewish Week''. Gary Rosenblatt
Gary Rosenblatt was the editor and publisher of ''The Jewish Week'' of New York, a position he held from 1993 through 2019. Previously he was the editor of the ''Baltimore Jewish Times'' for 19 years. Rosenblatt is the father of musician Dov. Early career In 1972, Charles "Chuck" Buerger, the grandson of the founder of the ''Baltimore Jewish Times'', became the weekly's publisher. In 1974 he hired Gary Rosenblatt as editor. The two expanded the scope of the paper's coverage, as well as the size; in the 1980s the paper regularly exceeded 200 pages, and circulation peaked at over 20,000.
