The Invisible Fear
''The Invisible Fear'' is a lost 1921 American silent mystery film directed by Edwin Carewe and starring Anita Stewart. It was produced by Stewart and Louis B. Mayer with release through First National Pictures. Plot As described in a film magazine, Sylvia Langdon (Stewart) is engaged to Bentley Arnold (Forrest). Her hand is also sought by Arthur Comstock (McGrail), a nephew of John Randall (Crane), who is a partner of Marshall Arnold (Morse). Sylvia accompanies Arthur on a paper chase from the country club but is thrown from her horse. A storm overtakes them and they seek refuge in a lodge. Here Arthur attempts to make love to Sylvia and during a violet quarrel she hits him on the head with a heavy candlestick. She flees from the lodge and, turning back, finds it engulfed in flames. John Randall discovers that Arthur has taken a will from his desk and sets out to find him. An accident happens and Randall is reported killed. Sylvia and Bentley are married. Edwin Carewe
Edwin Carewe (March 3, 1883 – January 22, 1940) was an American motion picture director, actor, producer, and screenwriter. His birth name was Jay John Fox; he was born in Gainesville, Texas. Career After brief studies at the Universities of Texas and Missouri and a period of work with regional theatrical groups, Carewe moved to New York City in 1910, where he became a member of the Dearborn Stock Company. Although Jay Fox was his given name, Carewe chose Edwin (from stage actor Edwin Booth) and Carewe from a character he was playing. Carewe was on stage as an actor before he worked for Lubin studios. Later, he directed films for MGM, First National, Universal Studios, Paramount Pictures, and United Artists. During his career, he provided early screen exposure to many actors such as Dolores del Río, Warner Baxter, Francis X. Bushman and Gary Cooper. George Kuwa
George Kuwa (born Keichii Kuwahara) was a Japanese and American Issei (Japanese immigrant) film actor of the silent era. He appeared in more than 50 films between 1916 and 1931. He was the first actor to portray Charlie Chan on-screen in the 1926 film serial '' The House Without a Key''.Hanke (1989), xii. Biography According to contemporaneous reports, Kuwa was born in Hiroshima, Japan. His father was a judge and wanted George to follow suit. Kuwa moved to the U.S. around 1916 or 1917 and began a career in Hollywood. Like many Japanese actors of the era, he often played Chinese characters. He made several films in Japan as well before returning to the U.S.; he died in Los Angeles in 1931 at the age of 46.
