Tabloid (newspaper Format)
A tabloid is a newspaper with a compact page size smaller than broadsheet. There is no standard size for this newspaper format. Etymology The word ''tabloid'' comes from the name given by the London-based pharmaceutical company Burroughs Wellcome & Co. to the compressed tablets they marketed as "Tabloid" pills in the late 1880s. The connotation of ''tabloid'' was soon applied to other small compressed items. A 1902 item in London's ''Westminster Gazette'' noted, "The proprietor intends to give in tabloid form all the news printed by other journals." The University of Toledo (UToledo or UT) is a public research university in Toledo, Ohio. It is the northernmost campus of the University System of Ohio. ''Spectrum'' was a Toledo, Ohio-based newspaper (and later, magazine) serving the University of Toledo community. History ''Spectrum'' was founded in 1993 by two University of Toledo students, Michael Miller and Will Nicholes. Both had previously served as editors at the student newspaper, '' The Collegian''. ''Spectrum'' contributors included future ''Toledo Free Press'' cartoonist Jeff Payden (creator of GoComics comic ''Biff & Riley'') and Edward Shimborske III. The ''Toledo Free Press'' was a weekly newspaper which was published from 2005 to 2015 in Toledo, Ohio. History It was founded in March 2005 by Thomas Pounds, a veteran administrator of daily newspapers in Toledo and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. On March 10, 2010, the paper added a Wednesday edition called the ''Toledo Free Press STAR'', that was only available on newsstands throughout Northwest Ohio. Spot Color
In offset printing, a spot color or solid color is any color generated by an ink (pure or mixed) that is printed using a ''single run'', whereas a process color is produced by printing a series of dots of different colors. The widespread offset-printing process is composed of the four spot colors cyan, magenta, yellow, and key (black) commonly referred to as CMYK. More advanced processes involve the use of six spot colors ( hexachromatic process), which add orange and green to the process (termed CMYKOG).
