The Image Makers
''The Image Makers'' ( sv, Bildmakarna) is a 2000 Swedish television play directed by Ingmar Bergman and written by Per Olov Enquist. The drama is set in the year 1920 at Filmstaden where the film director Victor Sjöström is shooting the film ''The Phantom Carriage'', an adaptation of Selma Lagerlöf's novel '' Thy Soul Shall Bear Witness!'' Accompanied by actress Tora Teje and film photographer Julius Jaenzon, he has now invited the book's author to take a first look at some early scenes. The play was originally written for and staged by the Royal Dramatic Theatre, featuring the same cast, where it premiered on 13 February 1998, directed by Bergman. Following the success of the stage production, it was adapted for Swedish television by SVT in 2000 with Bergman as director. Per Olov Enquist
Per Olov Enquist, also known as P. O. Enquist, (23 September 1934 – 25 April 2020) was a Swedish author. He had worked as a journalist, playwright and novelist. Biography Enquist was born and raised in , a village in present-day Skellefteå Municipality, Västerbotten. He was the only son of a single mother, who became a widow when he was half a year old. In his youth, he was a promising athlete with a high jump personal best of 1.97 meters. He studied at Uppsala University, receiving a degree in the history of literature. During his time in Uppsala he started writing, his first novel ''Kristallögat'' being published in 1961, and became a newspaper journalist. Enquist won the Nordic Council's Literature Prize in 1968 for '' Legionärerna'', his account of Sweden's deportation of Baltic-country soldiers at the end of the second world war which also became his international breakthrough. Palisades Tartan is a British/American film distribution company, founded by US-based Palisades Media Group to take over the film library of film distributor Tartan Films after it folded in the summer of 2008. History Tartan Films, established in 1984, was a UK-based film distributor. Founder Hamish McAlpine (not to be confused with the Hamish McAlpine that played football for Dundee United) is credited with creating the term "Asia Extreme" and making such films accessible to the masses. Royal Dramatic Theatre
The Royal Dramatic Theatre ( sv, Kungliga Dramatiska Teatern, colloquially ''Dramaten'') is Sweden's national stage for "spoken drama", founded in 1788. Around one thousand shows are put on annually on the theatre's five running stages. The theatre has been at its present location in the Art Nouveau building at Nybroplan, Stockholm, since 1908. The theatre was built by the architect Fredrik Lilljekvist. Famous artists like Carl Milles and Carl Larsson were involved in making the decorations, and some of the interior decorations were made by Prince Eugen. The theatre's acting school, the Royal Dramatic Training Academy, produced many actors and directors who would go on to be famous, including Gustaf Molander (who also taught there), Alf Sjöberg, Greta Garbo, Vera Schmiterlöw, Signe Hasso, Ingrid Bergman, Gunnar Björnstrand, Max von Sydow, and Bibi Andersson. Julius Jaenzon
Julius Jaenzon (8 July 1885 Р17 February 1961) was a Swedish cinematographer, essential in the early Swedish silent cinema. He is most known for his collaborations with directors Victor Sj̦str̦m and Mauritz Stiller, particularly in adaptions of novels by Selma Lagerl̦f.
