''The Illustrated Adelaide Post'' was a monthly publication, January 1867 – December 1874, published by W. A. Cawthorne, with issues appearing the week before departure of the English mail ship, clearly for new arrivals wanting to keep friends and relations "back home" informed. and printed by W. C. Sims (c. 1842–1923) of Gawler Place, Adelaide and his partner Joseph Elliott (c. 1833–1883), previously of the ''South Australian Registers general printing office, and later owner of ''The Southern Argus'', in 1867. Although described as "South Australia's first entirely local, fully illustrated, newspaper", it was characterised by the ''South Australian Register'', among other deficiencies, as having only the first and last pages dedicated to local news, the rest being identical to ''The Illustrated Melbourne Post''. ''The Border Watch'' is an Australian newspaper based in Mount Gambier, South Australia, as of October 2020 owned by TBW Today Pty Ltd. The paper services Mount Gambier, the South Australian Limestone Coast, and parts of Western Victoria. It is the oldest and largest regional newspaper in South Australia. Gawler Place, Adelaide
Gawler Place is a single-lane road in the city centre of Adelaide, the capital of South Australia. It runs north to south from North Terrace to Wakefield Street, parallel to and approximately midway between King William and Pulteney Streets. History Prior to 1904, the lanes that now make up Gawler Place included Rundle Place (North Terrace to Rundle Street, now Rundle Mall), Gawler Place (Rundle to Grenfell Street) and Freeman Street (Grenfell to Wakefield Street), as well as Gawler Place. The Adelaide City Council planned an upgrade to Gawler Place to commence in early 2018. However work finally began in January 2019. The upgrade includes "new footpath and road surfaces, lighting, seating and spaces for socialising". ''The Register'', originally the ''South Australian Gazette and Colonial Register'', and later ''South Australian Register,'' was South Australia's first newspaper. It was first published in London in June 1836, moved to Adelaide in 1837, and folded into '' The Advertiser'' almost a century later in February 1931. The newspaper was the sole primary source for almost all information about the settlement and early history of South Australia. It documented shipping schedules, legal history and court records at a time when official records were not kept. The ''Australasian Sketcher with Pen and Pencil'' was a monthly magazine published in Melbourne by The Argus (Melbourne), ''The Argus'' between 1873 and 1889. History and profile The ''Sketcher'' appeared once a month, starting April 1873. The proprietors were named as Edward Wilson (journalist), Edward Wilson, Lachlan Mackinnon and others. Old Gum Tree
The Old Gum Tree (also known as The Proclamation Tree) is a historic site in Glenelg North, South Australia. Near this tree on 28 December 1836, the British governor John Hindmarsh delivered the proclamation announcing the establishment of Government of the colony of South Australia. A ceremony is held each year at the site on Proclamation Day, with the current Governor reading out Hindmarsh's original speech. The tree itself, probably a red gum, had died by 1907. Its decayed outer surface was encased in concrete in 1963. It was listed on the now-defunct Register of the National Estate in 1978 and listed on the South Australian Heritage Register in 1980.
