The Icemen
The Icemen are an American hardcore punk and metal band from New York City. The band was founded in late 1982 by guitarist and songwriter Marco Abularach. He was later joined by Noah Evans on bass guitar and Mackie Jayson (Bad Brains, Cro-Mags) on drums. Abularach and Evans grew up together in the Westbeth Artists Community of New York's Greenwich Village, and shared a recording/rehearsal studio there – Studio 50 otherwise known as SD50. They met Mackie at The High School of Music & Art. All of The Icemen's music and lyrics were written by Marco Abularach who, in addition, created all band related artwork. Most of their recordings were produced by Evans, who also has worked as producer and/or engineer as well as live sound for many other bands. Crossover Thrash
Crossover thrash (often abbreviated to crossover) is a fusion genre of thrash metal and hardcore punk. The genre lies on a continuum between heavy metal and hardcore punk. Other genres on the same continuum, such as metalcore and grindcore, may overlap with crossover thrash. The High School Of Music & Art
The High School of Music & Art, informally known as "Music & Art" (or "M&A"), was a public specialized high school located at 443-465 West 135th Street in the borough of Manhattan, New York, from 1936 until 1984. In 1961, Music & Art and the High School of Performing Arts (est. 1947) were formed into a two-campus high school. The schools fully merged in 1984 into the Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & the Arts. Colloquially known as "The Castle on the Hill," the building that once housed Music & Art is located in the Hamilton Heights neighborhood of Harlem, in the campus of the City College of New York across the street from St. Nicholas Park. Metalcore (also known as metallic hardcore) is a fusion music genre that combines elements of extreme metal and hardcore punk. As with other styles blending metal and hardcore, such as crust punk and grindcore, metalcore is noted for its use of breakdowns, slow, intense passages conducive to moshing. Other defining instrumental qualities include heavy riffs and stop-start rhythm guitar playing, occasional blast beats, and double bass drumming. Vocalists in the genre typically use thrash or scream vocals. Some later metalcore bands combine this with clean singing, often during the chorus. Pyramid Club (New York)
The Pyramid Club is a nightclub in the East Village, Manhattan, East Village of Manhattan, New York City. After opening in 1979, the Pyramid helped define the East Village drag, gay, punk and art scenes of the 1980s. The club is located at 101 Avenue A (Manhattan), Avenue A in Manhattan. The Stimulators (American Band)
The Stimulators were an American punk rock band from New York City. Although they have a limited discography, they are notable for being consistently cited as an important transitional band between the late-1970s New York City punk rock scene and New York hardcore, and for being the musical entry point for future Cro-Mags founder Harley Flanagan. History Denise Mercedes grew up in Manhattan and Queens, New York City, raised by a longshoreman father who played flute and piano. Teaching herself to play guitar, she became infatuated with punk rock after having seen the Damned play their first New York City show at CBGB. Denise attended the gig with a friend who worked for Stiff Records and has recalled of the event "literally the second they started to play, my life changed." CBGB
CBGB was a New York City music club opened in 1973 by Hilly Kristal in Manhattan's East Village. The club was previously a biker bar and before that was a dive bar. The letters ''CBGB'' were for '' Country'', '' BlueGrass'', and '' Blues'', Kristal's original vision, yet CBGB soon became a famed venue of punk rock and new wave bands like the Ramones, Television, Patti Smith Group, Blondie, and Talking Heads.
