The Hurricane Kid
''The Hurricane Kid'' is a 1925 American silent Western film directed by Edward Sedgwick and starring Hoot Gibson. It was produced and released by Universal Pictures. Plot As described in a review in a film magazine, the Hurricane Kid (Gibson) falls in love with one young woman after another. When he breaks his arm, Joan (Nixon) takes him to her father Colonel Langdon's (Mackley) ranch. Foreman Lafe Baxter (Steele) is jealous, and the Kid whips him in a fist fight for insulting Joan. The Colonel and ranchman Hezekiah Potts (Todd) stage a horse race and bet their ranches. The Kid tames Pal, a wild mare of great speed which the Colonel had captured and then turned loose, and the Kid wins the race on that horse. Joan, who has mocked him for playing the gallant, now relents. Edward Sedgwick
Edward Sedgwick (November 7, 1889 – March 7, 1953) was an American film director, writer, actor and producer. Early life He was born in Galveston, Texas, the son of Edward Sedgwick, Sr. and Josephine Walker, both stage actors. At the age of four, young Edward Sedgwick joined his show business family in what was then the Sedgwick Comedy Company, a vaudeville act, doing a "singing speciality". He played child parts and did vaudeville acts until he was seven, when he was given his first comedy part, that of an Irish immigrant, in a comedy written by his father called ''Just Over''. During this time, he was only on stage during the summer months. In winter his father took him back to Galveston and sent him to school. He graduated from St. Mary's University of Galveston, and was then sent to the Peacock Military Academy in San Antonio, from which he graduated with the rank of first lieutenant. Violet La Plante (born Violet LaPlant; January 17, 1908 – June 1, 1984), also known as Violet Avon, was an American silent film actress. Biography Violet La Plante, born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri, was the younger sister of future Hollywood star Laura La Plante, and started acting in the early 1920s, adapting her surname to "La Plante", like her sister. Her first film was in 1924, starring opposite Buddy Roosevelt, in ''Battling Buddy''. She starred in four films in 1924. The following year, she made just one film, but was included in the WAMPAS Baby Stars (at the time, baby star was common slang for starlet). Her sister Laura was a 1923 WAMPAS Baby Stars.
