The Hunted Woman
''The Hunted Woman'' is a 1925 American silent drama film directed by Jack Conway and starring Seena Owen, Earl Schenck, and Victor McLaglen. Plot As described in a film magazine review, a young woman goes North to find out whether her husband is dead or alive and also to effect the release of her innocent brother from jail. She meets a youth who has staked out a gold claim and has a romance with him. She does not surrender her love until her husband is found and killed, meeting death in a fight with the youth's partner. Jack Conway (filmmaker)
Hugh Ryan "Jack" Conway (July 17, 1887 – October 11, 1952) was an American film director and film producer, as well as an actor of many films in the first half of the 20th century. Biography He was born as Hugh Ryan Conway, on July 17, 1887, in Graceville, Minnesota, USA. Conway started out as an actor, joining a repertory theater group straight out of high school. He then moved into films, and in 1911, became a member of D.W. Griffith's stock company, appearing primarily in Westerns. Four years later, he made his mark as a director and gained valuable experience at Universal (1916–17 and 1921–23), before moving on to MGM in 1925. He remained there until 1948, often helming prestige assignments featuring the studio's top male star, Clark Gable: ''Boom Town'' (1940), ''Honky Tonk'' (1941), and ''The Hucksters'' (1947) – all solid box-office hits. Diana Miller
Diana Miller (March 18, 1902 – December 18, 1927) was an American actress in silent motion pictures. She had red hair and excelled in playing roles which required delineation of character. She was briefly married director and producer George Melford. Career Born in Seattle, Washington, Miller entered movies with assistance from actor Wallace Reid. She worked for five years for Famous Players-Lasky before she lost her job and rebounded with the Fox Film Company. She was almost penniless and took work as an extra. By 1925 Miller had worked in nine Fox films. Miller's first performance was in ''Honor Among Men'' (1924). She played the role of ''Celeste'' in ''She Wolves'' (1925) before making ''The Kiss Barrier'' (1925), which featured Edmund Lowe. A lost film is a feature or short film that no longer exists in any studio archive, private collection, public archive or the U.S. Library of Congress. Conditions During most of the 20th century, U.S. copyright law required at least one copy of every American film to be deposited at the Library of Congress at the time of copyright registration, but the Librarian of Congress was not required to retain those copies: "Under the provisions of the act of March 4, 1909, authority is granted for the return to the claimant of copyright of such copyright deposits as are not required by the Library." Edward Peil Sr
Edward J. Peil Sr. (January 18, 1883 – December 29, 1958) was an American film actor. He appeared in more than 370 films between 1913 and 1951. Biography Peil was born in Racine, Wisconsin, one of 10 children of Mr. and Mrs. John H. Pell. He attended Racine High School and the University of Notre Dame, studying dramatics, which led to his acting on stage and later in films. His first film was ''Charley's Aunt'' (1906). He had the lead in the first five-reel film, ''Through Fire to Fortune'' (1910). He also acted in the first film that used artificial illumination outdoors at night, the first three-reel color film, and the first Technicolor film. Peil's wife, Henrietta, was an actress. They were married in 1916 in Wabash, Indiana, while both were touring with the Chicago Majestic Theater Stock Company. Peil died in Hollywood, California.
