Bob Walker purchased the newspaper in 1966 and ran the company under the Grayson Publishing Company until selling the publication to Jim and Nita Echols. The Echols family then sold The ''Howe Enterprise'' to Dale and Lana Rideout. During the Rideout's tenure, they changed the name from the ''Howe Enterprise'' to the ''Texoma Enterprise'' in 1997. Howe, Texas
Howe is a town in Grayson County, Texas, United States. The population was 3,451 in the 2020 U.S. Census. It is part of the Sherman– Denison metropolitan statistical area. History The first settlers in the area arrived around the time of the Texas Revolution in 1836. In 1843, the last Indian battle in Grayson County was said to have been fought in the area. The first settlers of Howe were Jabez and Harriet Haning, and Jabez's brother John. They received land through the Peters colony after their arrival from Pennsylvania before 1850. The Houston and Texas Central Railway built through the area in 1873, and a railroad switch was located in the community. It was called "Summit" because at above sea level, it was supposed to be the highest point between the Red River and the Gulf of Mexico. Sherman is a U.S. city in and the county seat of Grayson County, Texas. The city's population in 2020 was 43,645. It is one of the two principal cities in the Sherman–Denison metropolitan statistical area, and it is part of the Texoma region of North Texas and southern Oklahoma. History Sherman was named after General Sidney Sherman (July 23, 1805 – August 1, 1873), a hero of the Texas Revolution. The community was designated as the county seat by the act of the Texas Legislature, which created Grayson County on March 17, 1846. In 1847, a post office began operation. Grayson County is a county in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2020 census, its population was 135,543. The county seat is Sherman. The county was founded in 1846 and is named after Peter Wagener Grayson, an attorney general of the Republic of Texas. Grayson County is included in the Sherman- Denison metropolitan statistical area, which is also included in the Dallas-Fort Worth- Arlington, combined statistical area. It is also part of the Texoma region, with proximity to Lake Texoma and the Red River.
