''The House Under the Rocks'' (Hungarian: ''Ház a sziklák alatt'') is a 1958 Hungarian drama film directed by Károly Makk and György Hintsch and starring János Görbe, Irén Psota and Margit Bara. Burns p.213 It was shot at the Hunnia Studios in Budapest. The film's sets were designed by the art director László Duba. It premiered at the 1958 Venice Film Festival before being released in Hungary the following year. Károly Makk
Károly Makk (December 22, 1925 – August 30, 2017) was a Hungarian film director and screenwriter. Five of his films were nominated for the ''Palme d'Or'' at the Cannes Film Festival; however, he won lesser awards at Cannes and elsewhere. He was born in Berettyóújfalu, Hungary. In 1973 he was a member of the jury at the 8th Moscow International Film Festival. In 1980, he was a member of the jury at the 30th Berlin International Film Festival. His film ''A Long Weekend in Pest and Buda'' (2003) was entered into the 25th Moscow International Film Festival. From September 27, 2011, he was the president of the Széchenyi Academy of Literature and Arts. Erzsi Máthé (born Erzsi Mertz; 16 May 1927 – 8 May 2023) was a Hungarian stage, film and television actress. Life and career Born in Budafok into a family of Swabian origins, Máthé made her acting debut in 1945 in a local amateur theatre company, and then she enrolled at the National Actors' Association's School of Acting, graduating in 1948. She adopted her stage name in 1949. Mainly active on stage, for over three decades she was a member of the National Theatre of Pécs stage company, and in 1983 she co-founded the Katona József Theater in Budapest.
