The Horse Thief
''The Horse Thief'' is a 1986 Chinese film by director Tian Zhuangzhuang. It follows one of Tian's favorite topics, Chinese minorities, a topic he touched upon in 1984's ''On the Hunting Ground'' and would return to in 2004's documentary, ''Delamu''. Like these other films, ''The Horse Thief'' shows Tian's fascination with China's ethnic minorities, and in particular the Buddhist ceremonies that these peoples practice. ''The Horse Thief'' was produced by the Xi'an Film Studio. Plot The film follows the titular horse thief, Norbu as he struggles to support his family in Tibet. After his son dies, however, Norbu strives to change his ways. At the end of the film, he decides to resort to stealing horses again to support his family. He is caught and tells his family to escape back to the village where they will be welcomed while he fends off the owner. Eugene Kal Siskel (January 26, 1946 – February 20, 1999) was an American film critic and journalist for the ''Chicago Tribune''. Along with colleague Roger Ebert, he hosted a series of movie review programs on television from 1975 until his death in 1999. Siskel started writing for the ''Chicago Tribune'' in 1969, becoming its film critic soon after. In 1975, he was paired with Roger Ebert to co-host a monthly show called ''Opening Soon at a Theater Near You'' airing locally on PBS member station WTTW. Fribourg International Film Festival
The Fribourg International Film Festival (FIFF) is an annual film festival in Fribourg, Switzerland. It is focused on selected films from Asia, Africa and Latin America. The Grand Prize is the main award of the Fribourg International Film Festival. The Festival FIFF aims to promote the understanding between the cultures and more particularly between the so-called North and South. It gives preference to films that stimulate reflection and provoke discussion.
