''The Hobgoblin'' (German: ''Der Klabautermann'') is a 1924 German silent thriller film directed by Paul Merzbach and starring Evi Eva, Wilhelm Diegelmann and Harry Hardt.Grange p.172 In Berlin it premiered at the Marmorhaus. The film's art direction was by Botho Hoefer. Paul Merzbach
Paul Merzbach (27 November 1888 – September 1943) was an Austrian screenwriter and film director. Merzbach worked in the Austrian and Germany film industries during the early stages of his career. He worked initially on scripts, but in 1924 he directed his first film. During the late 1920s, Merzbach worked in Sweden before returning to Germany. Following the Nazi rise to power in 1933, Merzbach went into exile in Britain.Brinson, Dove & Taylor p.139 He worked in the British film industry for the remainder of his career. The Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross (german: Ritterkreuz des Eisernen Kreuzes) and its variants were the highest awards in the military and paramilitary forces of Nazi Germany during World War II. The Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross was awarded for a wide range of reasons and across all ranks, from a senior commander for skilled leadership of his troops in battle to a low-ranking soldier for a single act of extreme gallantry. A total of 7,321 awards were made between its first presentation on 30 September 1939 and its last bestowal on 17 June 1945. This number is based on the acceptance by the Association of Knight's Cross Recipients (AKCR).
