The Hitter (film)
''The Hitter'' is a 1979 American blaxploitation action film directed by Christopher Leitch and written by Christopher Leitch and Ben Harris. The film stars Ron O'Neal, Sheila Frazier, Adolph Caesar, Bill Cobbs, Dorothi Fox and Alfie Brown. The film was released in February 1979, by Peppercorn-Wormser Film Enterprises. Plot An ex-professional boxer who killed a man in the ring (O'Neal) tries to make a new start when teaming up with a fast talking but ageing hoodlum (Caeser) and an ex-call girl (Frazier) but soon get more than they bargained for when crossing an adversary from their past. Ron O'Neal
Ron O'Neal (September 1, 1937 – January 14, 2004) was an American actor, director and screenwriter, who rose to fame in his role as Youngblood Priest, a New York cocaine dealer, in the blaxploitation film '' Super Fly'' (1972) and its sequel '' Super Fly T.N.T.'' (1973). O'Neal was also a director and writer for the sequel, and for the film ''Up Against the Wall''. Early life Ron O'Neal grew up in a working-class neighborhood of Cleveland, Ohio, to parents Eunice and Ernest O'Neal, a former jazz musician who earned his living as a factory worker. Ernest died when Ron was 16 years old. Six months later his brother, who worked as a truck driver, was killed in an accident. Following these tragedies his mother found a job in a hospital to sustain the family. Sheila Elaine Frazier (born November 13, 1948) is an American actress, producer, and model. Frazier is known for her co-starring role as Georgia in the 1972 crime/drama film '' Super Fly''. Frazier later reprised her role in the 1973 sequel, '' Super Fly T.N.T.'' Biography Sheila Elaine Frazier was born in New York City, New York to Dorothy Dennis and Eugene Cole Frazier. She lived on the Lower East Side of Manhattan and attended PS 97 until age ten, when she moved with her mother to Englewood, New Jersey. There, she enrolled in the Liberty School. As a young girl, Frazier was a had a stutter, which contributed to her shyness. Blaxploitation is an ethnic subgenre of the exploitation film that emerged in the United States during the early 1970s. The term, a portmanteau of the words "black" and "exploitation", was coined in August 1972 by Junius Griffin, the president of the Beverly Hills-Hollywood NAACP branch. He claimed the genre was "proliferating offenses" to the black community in its perpetuation of stereotypical characters often involved in crime. The genre does rank among the first after the race films in the 1940s and 1960s in which black characters and communities are the protagonists and subjects of film and television, rather than sidekicks, antagonists or victims of brutality.
