''The High and the Flighty'' is a 1956 Warner Bros. ''Merrie Melodies'' cartoon directed by Robert McKimson and written by Tedd Pierce. The short was released on February 18, 1956, and stars Daffy Duck, Foghorn Leghorn and Barnyard Dawg. The title is a parody of the 1954 Warner Bros. Pictures film ''The High and the Mighty'' starring John Wayne. Plot Daffy Duck is a traveling salesman for the Ace Novelty Company of Walla Walla, Washington, when he witnesses Foghorn Leghorn and the Barnyard Dawg in one of their familiar alternating scraps (Foghorn is seen awakening the dog by lifting him up by the tail and repeatedly slapping his rear end with a board which causes the dog to chase him. The dog goes in pursuit, but reaches a painted white line with a sign that reads "Rope Limit" which causes the dog to be jerked to a stop by the rope around his neck. Robert McKimson
Robert Porter McKimson Sr. (October 13, 1910 – September 29, 1977) was an American animator and illustrator, best known for his work on the ''Looney Tunes'' and '' Merrie Melodies'' series of cartoons from Warner Bros. Cartoons and later DePatie–Freleng Enterprises. He wrote and directed many animated cartoon shorts starring Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, Foghorn Leghorn, Hippety Hopper, and The Tasmanian Devil, among other characters. He was also well known for defining Bugs Bunny's look in the 1943 short ''Tortoise Wins by a Hare''. Career Born in Denver, Colorado, McKimson spent ten years gaining an art education at the Lukits School of Art. ''Raw! Raw! Rooster!'' is a 1956 Warner Bros. ''Looney Tunes'' cartoon directed by Robert McKimson. The cartoon was released on August 25, 1956, and features Foghorn Leghorn. The voices were performed by Mel Blanc and an uncredited Daws Butler. Plot The opening shows Foghorn Leghorn lounging in the barnyard, being fanned and serenaded by several hens, when a telegram arrives saying that his old college roommate, Rhode Island Red, will be paying him a visit. Red is voiced by Daws Butler, and is a takeoff on Jackie Gleason's "Loudmouth" character, Charlie Bratten ("Here's CHARLIE!!"). Foghorn decides that he had enough of "that loudmouth" Red in college, and puts up several signs and barbed wire outside the barnyard fence to discourage Red from visiting. ''Weasel Stop'' is a 1956 Warner Bros. ''Looney Tunes'' animated short film directed by Robert McKimson. The cartoon was released on February 11, 1956, and features Foghorn Leghorn. The cartoon is unusual in that a different dog (instead of the Barnyard Dawg) is used as Foghorn's nemesis. The title is a pun on the phrase "whistle stop". Plot A shaggy dog (played by Lloyd Perryman''The Animated Film Encyclopedia'', Graham Webb, McFarland Press, 2000) is the guard at a farm's chicken coop when a lip-smacking weasel comes along, intending to gain access to the chickens. And, never one to side with a canine, Foghorn Leghorn opts to help the weasel by trying to violently remove the guard dog. The rooster and weasel try various methods of getting rid of the dog, but wind up losing all their feathers and fur in a hay baling machine.
