Clarence Budington Kelland
Clarence Budington "Bud" Kelland (July 11, 1881 – February 18, 1964) was an American writer. Prolific and versatile, he was a prominent literary figure in his heyday, and he described himself as "the best second-rate writer in America". Kelland had a long career as a writer of fiction, stretching from 1913 to 1960. He was published in many magazines, including ''The Saturday Evening Post'' and ''The American Magazine''. A prolific writer, his output included 60 novels and some 200 short stories. His best known juvenile works were the Mark Tidd series and the Catty Atkins series, while his best known adult work was the Scattergood Baines series. Other notable adult books by Kelland include ''Conflict'' (1920), ''Rhoda Fair'' (1925), ''Hard Money'' (1930), ''Arizona'' (1939), and ''Dangerous Angel'' (1953). Arthur Millett
Arthur Millett (April 21, 1874 in Pittsfield, Maine – February 24, 1952 in Los Angeles, California), born Arthur Nelson Millett, was an early American motion picture actor whose career was at its height in the silent film era. Biography Born in 1874, Millett was signed on to appear in his first film relatively late in life at age 40 in 1914, but immediately work began to pick up. His first film ''The Lost Treasure'' was released in 1914. In 1915, he starred in films such as '' Coals of Fire'' and ''The Law of the Wilds'', working with prolific actors such as Harry von Meter and Vivian Rich. Millett starred in a total of 116 film in his career. With the advent of sound films, however, his career declined significantly. In the majority of the roles in his 60 or so films after 1927, Millett was uncredited. Millett was married to actress Neva Gerber. He retired from film in 1940 and died in 1952. Claire Anderson (actress)
Claire Mathis Anderson (May 8, 1891 – March 23, 1964), native of Detroit, was a silent film actress who worked with stars such as Constance Talmadge, Harry Carey, Thurston Hall, Tom Mix and Gloria Swanson. She was described as one of the original Sennett Bathing Beauties. Before she became an actress, Anderson worked as a telephone operator in Hudson's department store in Detroit. Anderson became the first documented double used in film in 1914 when she replaced Blanche Sweet in some scenes of ''The Escape'' while Sweet had scarlet fever. She also volunteered to replace a leading lady in a Sennett comedy who refused to enter a lion's cage. After Anderson entered the cage, she received a contract for $675 a week. Anderson also appeared in the 1944 production of ''Mexican Hayride'' at the Winter Garden Theatre in New York City. She was married to Harry H. Anderson, a "wealthy Hollywood automobile agent". Billie West (August 5, 1891 – June 7, 1967) was an American actress of the silent era. She appeared in more than 60 films between 1912 and 1917. West was born in Louisville, Kentucky, and had two brothers. West left home in 1910 to begin her career. She performed in vaudeville, in musical comedy and as an ingenue in stock theater in St. Louis. Film companies for which West worked included Vitagraph, Pathe Freres, and the Broncho Company.
