The Heart of Texas Ryan, aka The Light of Western Stars, is a 1917 American silent Western film starring Tom Mix and Bessie Eyton and directed by E.A. Martin. The film was produced by Sanford Productions. It is Tom Mix's first feature-length film. The film was re-released in 1923 as ''Single Shot Parker'', a title by which it is sometimes called when marketed on home video and DVD. Plot The story centers on a love relationship between sharpshooting cowboy Jack "One Shot" Parker and Texas Ryan. Selig Polyscope Company
The Selig Polyscope Company was an American motion picture company that was founded in 1896 by William Selig in Chicago. The company produced hundreds of early, widely distributed commercial moving pictures, including the first films starring Tom Mix, Harold Lloyd, Colleen Moore, and Roscoe "Fatty" Arbuckle. Selig Polyscope also established Southern California's first permanent movie studio, in the historic Edendale district of Los Angeles. Ending film production in 1918, the business, based on its film production animals, became an animal and prop supplier to other studios and a zoo and amusement park attraction in East Los Angeles until the Great Depression in the 1930s. Goldie Colwell
Goldie Colwell was an American film actress and journalist who starred in more than 80 films during Hollywood's silent era. She was Tom Mix's leading lady in many Selig westerns. Biography Goldie was born in Tecumseh, Kansas, to John Colwell and Celia Pearson. The family eventually relocated to Los Angeles, where Goldie began working as an actress around 1911; her first credited role was in Joseph A. Golden and Tom Mix's ''Why the Sheriff Is a Bachelor''. She was employed at Selig as Tom Mix's leading lady in dozens of westerns before heading to David Horsley's Centaur Film Company, where she continued to take on starring roles. After retiring from acting around 1919, she became a magazine editor, heading up a new publication called ''The Spotlight''. Tom Mix (1880–1940) was an American motion picture actor, director, and writer whose career spanned from 1910 to 1935. During this time he appeared in 270 films and established himself as the screen's most popular cowboy star. Mix's flair for showmanship set the standard for later cowboy heroes such as Gene Autry and Roy Rogers. His horse Tony also became a celebrity who received his own fan mail. Born in Pennsylvania, Mix served in the United States Army before moving to the Oklahoma Territory in 1902. Three years later, after working as a physical fitness instructor, bartender, and peace officer, he was hired as a full-time cowboy for the Miller Brothers 101 Ranch.
