The Haunting Of M
''The Haunting of M'' is an American 1979 independent horror film directed by Anna Thomas and starring Sheelagh Gilbey, Nini Pitt, Evie Garratt, Alan Hay, and Jo Scott Matthews. This is the only film directed by Thomas, with her husband Gregory Nava acting as a cinematographer. Thomas shot the film in a castle in Scotland inviting a little known cast. The film premiered in the Chicago International Film Festival. Plot The film is set in the first years of the twentieth century. The successful actress Halina visits the ball at her family's estate. A group photo is taken, but later she and her sister Marianna are puzzled to see a mysterious person present in the photo, whom none of them recognizes. Then their estate gets haunted by the ghost of a young man that wanders through the corridors, tormenting Marianne. Their aging aunt Teresa finally recognizes the figure in the photo. Anna Thomas
Anna Thomas (born July 12, 1948) is a German-born American author, screenwriter, and film producer. She is best known as the author of the 1972 vegetarian cookbook, ''The Vegetarian Epicure'', which contributed to the rise of the vegetarian movement of the 1970s. She is currently Discipline Head of the Screenwriting department at the American Film Institute. Education While at the film school at UCLA Thomas wrote, produced and directed her master's thesis film, a dramatic feature titled '' The Haunting of M'', a turn of the century ghost story, shot in Scotland. Eugene Kal Siskel (January 26, 1946 – February 20, 1999) was an American film critic and journalist for the ''Chicago Tribune''. Along with colleague Roger Ebert, he hosted a series of movie review programs on television from 1975 until his death in 1999. Siskel started writing for the ''Chicago Tribune'' in 1969, becoming its film critic soon after. In 1975, he was paired with Roger Ebert to co-host a monthly show called ''Opening Soon at a Theater Near You'' airing locally on PBS member station WTTW. ''Sneak Previews'' (known as ''Opening Soon...at a Theater Near You'' from 1975 to 1977 and ''Sneak Previews Goes Video'' from 1989 to 1991) is an American film review show that ran for over two decades on Public Broadcasting Service (PBS). It was created by WTTW, a PBS affiliate in Chicago, Illinois. It premiered on November 26, 1975 as a monthly local-only show called ''Opening Soon...at a Theater Near You'' and was renamed in 1977 to ''Sneak Previews'' and it became a biweekly show in 1978 airing nationally on PBS. By 1980, it was a weekly series airing on over 180 stations, and it was the highest rated weekly entertainment series in the history of public broadcasting. The show's final broadcast was on June 7, 1996. Roger Joseph Ebert (; June 18, 1942 – April 4, 2013) was an American film critic, film historian, journalist, screenwriter, and author.
