''The Happy Wanderer'' (german: Der fröhliche Wanderer) is a 1955 West German romantic comedy film directed by Hans Quest. It stars Rudolf Schock, Waltraut Haas, Elma Karlowa, and Willy Fritsch.Bock & Bergfelder p.134 It was shot in Agfacolor at the Tempelhof Studios in West Berlin and on location in Bavaria. The film's sets were designed by the art director Hans Kuhnert. Wolfgang Neuss (3 December 1923 – 5 May 1989) was a German actor and Kabarett artist. Beginning in the mid-1960s, he also became famous for his political engagement, first for the SPD, then for the extra-parliamentary opposition, ''APO''. He died in 1989 from a longtime cancer. At the age of 15 he went to Berlin to become a clown but was dismissed. When Germany entered into the Second World War Neuss was drafted, first to the Reich Labour Service where he was occupied with road construction. Later he was sent to the Eastern Front where he became injured and was rewarded with the Iron Cross. It was during his stays in military hospitals and, after the war during military detention that Neuss began to discover his interest in acting and for Kabarett. Gunther Philipp (8 June 1918 – 2 October 2003) was an Austrian film actor, physician and swimmer. From 1949 to 2002 he appeared as an actor in 147 movies for cinema and television, mainly in comic roles. As an author, Philipp wrote 21 film scripts. Education During World War II, Philipp studied acting at the Max Reinhardt Seminar and at the University of Vienna philosophy, majoring in psychology and then medicine. In 1943 he received his doctorate in medicine ( Dr. med. univ.) He held the Austrian record in the 100-meter breaststroke for 14 years. Paul Hörbiger (29 April 1894 – 5 March 1981) was an Austrian theatre and film actor. Life and work Paul Hörbiger was born in the Hungarian capital Budapest, then part of Austria-Hungary, the son of engineer Hanns Hörbiger, founder of the ''Welteislehre'' cosmological concept, and elder brother of actor Attila Hörbiger. In 1902, the family returned to Vienna, while Paul attended the '' gymnasium'' (high school) at St. Paul's Abbey in Carinthia. Having obtained his ''Matura'' degree, he served in a mountain artillery regiment of the Austro-Hungarian Army in World War I, discharged in 1918 with the rank of an ''Oberleutnant''.
