The Gurkha
The Gurkha (foaled 31 March 2013) is an Irish Thoroughbred racehorse. Unraced as a juvenile he made a considerable impact in the spring of 2016 by winning the Poule d'Essai des Poulains on his third appearance. He went on to finish second in the St James's Palace Stakes and the Eclipse Stakes before winning the Sussex Stakes. He underwent surgery for a displaced colon in August 2016 and was retired from racing a month later. Background The Gurkha is a bay colt with a small white star bred in Ireland by the Chintz Syndicate, a breeding company associated with the John Magnier's Coolmore Stud organisation. Ballydoyle
Ballydoyle is a racehorse training facility located in County Tipperary in Ireland. It is a sister thoroughbred facility to Coolmore Stud, and both are owned by John Magnier, son in law to the racehorse trainer Vincent O'Brien. The current trainer at Ballydoyle is Aidan O'Brien, who succeeded Vincent O'Brien (no relation) in 1995. The current stable retained jockey is Ryan Moore. History After the 1951 Cheltenham Festival, Vincent O'Brien purchased and moved into Ballydoyle, then a farm ringed by mountains near the village of Rosegreen, County Tipperary. Authorized (foaled 14 February 2004) is an Irish-bred and British-trained Thoroughbred racehorse, winner of the 2007 Epsom Derby. Background Authorized was foaled on 14 February 2004 and was sired by Montjeu, winner of the Irish Derby, Prix du Jockey Club and Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe in 1999 and the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes in 2000. Authorized's dam, the unraced Funsie, was sired by Saumarez, winner of the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe in 1990. Solemia
Solemia (foaled 20 February 2008) is an Irish-bred, French-trained Thoroughbred racehorse best known for winning the 2012 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe. Before her win in the Arc, Solemia had won four of her twelve races, with her biggest win coming in the Group Two Prix Corrida at Saint-Cloud Racecourse in May 2012. Background Solemia is a bay filly with a white star bred in Ireland by the Wertheimer family. C L Weld Park Stakes
The Weld Park Stakes is a Group 3 flat horse race in Ireland open to two-year-old thoroughbred fillies. It is run at the Curragh over a distance of 7 furlongs (1,408 metres), and it is scheduled to take place each year in September or October. History The event was originally held at Phoenix Park, and it used to be contested over a mile. For a period it was called the Wexford Stakes, and it was later renamed the Park Stakes. It was shortened to 7 furlongs in 1971. The trainer Dermot Weld started to sponsor the race in the 1980s, and it was subsequently run in memory of his father Charlie Weld (also a trainer). The C. L. Ruler of the World (foaled 17 March 2010) is an Irish Thoroughbred racehorse who won The Derby in 2013. He was unraced as a two-year-old. In 2013, he won a maiden race at the Curragh and the Group Three Chester Vase before winning the Derby on his third appearance. Rip Van Winkle (12 February 2006 – 31 July 2020) was an Irish Thoroughbred racehorse sired by the dual Derby winner Galileo. Like his sire, Rip Van Winkle was also trained by Aidan O'Brien. Racing career 2008: two-year-old season Winning his maiden at the first time of asking, Rip Van Winkle then went on to win the Group 3 Tyros Stakes. After that effort, Rip Van Winkle started as the 6/4 favourite to win the Dewhurst on his final start as a two-year-old but was stuck behind a wall of horses in a bunched finish in which the first four home were covered by only half a length. New Approach (foaled 18 February 2005) is a retired Irish Thoroughbred racehorse and active stallion. In a racing career which lasted from July 2007 to October 2008 he ran eleven times and won eight races. He was undefeated in five races as a two-year-old in 2007 including the National Stakes and the Dewhurst Stakes. Nathaniel (horse)
Nathaniel (foaled 24 April 2008) is an Irish-bred British-trained Thoroughbred racehorse. Nathaniel failed to win in two races as a two-year-old but attracted attention by running Frankel to half a length at Newmarket. At three he recorded his first major win in the King Edward VII Stakes at Royal Ascot and then won Britain's most prestigious all-aged race, the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes over the same course and distance. Nathaniel returned in 2012 to win the Eclipse Stakes on his seasonal debut. Golden Lilac is an Irish-bred, French-trained Thoroughbred racehorse. She won her first six races including the Poule d'Essai des Pouliches and the Prix de Diane as a three-year-old in 2011.
