The Guest House
''The Guest House'' is a 2012 lesbian romance film written, produced and directed by Michael Baumgarten. It stars Ruth Reynolds and Madeline Merritt as two women who fall in love over a weekend at a Los Angeles guest house. The film has received mixed reviews from critics. Plot 18-year-old Rachel arrives home one morning after staying out all night with her boyfriend Jason. Jason has decided to dump Rachel since they have both just graduated from high school and are going off to college. Rachel goes inside her house and is scolded by her father for coming home so late. Right before he leaves on his business trip, he informs Rachel that a new employee at his company is coming over to stay in their guest house for a few days. Michael Baumgarten (filmmaker)
Michael Baumgarten (25 March 1812 – 21 July 1889) was a German Protestant theologian. Baumgarten was born at Haseldorf in Schleswig-Holstein. Life He studied at Kiel University (1832), and became professor ''ordinarius'' of theology at Rostock (1850). A liberal scholar, he became widely known in 1854 through a work, ''Die Nachtgesichte Sacharjas. Eine Prophetenstimme aus der Gegenwart'', in which, starting from texts in the Old Testament and assuming the tone of a prophet, he discussed topics of every kind. At a pastoral conference in 1856 he boldly defended evangelical freedom as regards the legal sanctity of Sunday. History and profile Founded by Frances "Franco" Stevens in San Francisco in 1990. While working at A Different Light Bookstore she noticed that bookstores and newsstands had few lesbian publications to offer, so she decided to do something about it. ''Curve'' was first published as ''Deneuve'' magazine. To fund the publication, Stevens applied for numerous credit cards, then took the borrowed money to the race track, winning enough money to cover the first three issues. Ruth Mary Reynolds (February 29, 1916 – December 2, 1989) was an American educator, political and civil rights activist who embraced the ideals of the Puerto Rican Nationalist Party.
