Arthur Ashley (October 6, 1886 – December 28, 1970) was an actor, writer, and director of silent films and also acted in legitimate theater. He was involved with World Pictures. He directed and acted in several film productions. Later in his career he established his own stock company for theatrical productions. His starring roles included ''The Guardian''. Short-lived but significant in American film history, World Film was created by financier and filmmaker Lewis J. Selznick in Fort Lee, where many early film studios in America's first motion picture industry were based in the early part of the 20th century. Formation World Film was to be the distribution arm for three main production companies: Selznick's own production company called Equitable Pictures, Jules Brulatour's Peerless Pictures, and the Shubert Pictures production company founded by the strong-willed promoter and entrepreneur William Aloysius Brady. June Elvidge
June Elvidge (June 30, 1893 – May 1, 1965) was an early 20th-century silent film actress. She was of English and Irish descent. Biography Born in St. Paul, Minnesota, Elvidge attended Pennsylvania College and was a concert singer before she began acting. Elvidge debuted in ''Passing Show of 1914'', produced by Sam Shubert at the Winter Garden Theatre in New York City. She worked there for two years. She is noted for playing roles as a vamp in silent movies such as ''The Lure of Woman'' (1915) and ''The Poison Pen'' (1919). On Broadway, Elvidge portrayed Nina Romaine in ''The Girl in the Spotlight'' (1920). Elvidge began working in films with the World Film stock company in 1915. Montagu Love (15 March 1877 – 17 May 1943) was an English screen, stage and vaudeville actor. Early years Born in Portsmouth, Hampshire, Love was the son of Harry Love and Fanny Louisa Love, née Poad; his father was listed as accountant on the 1881 English Census. Career Educated in Great Britain, Love began his career as an artist, with his first important job as an illustrator for ''The Illustrated Daily News'' in London. Love's acting debut came with an American company in a production in the Isle of Wight. His Broadway debut occurred in ''The Second in Command'' (1913). A lost film is a feature or short film that no longer exists in any studio archive, private collection, public archive or the U.S. Library of Congress. Conditions During most of the 20th century, U.S. copyright law required at least one copy of every American film to be deposited at the Library of Congress at the time of copyright registration, but the Librarian of Congress was not required to retain those copies: "Under the provisions of the act of March 4, 1909, authority is granted for the return to the claimant of copyright of such copyright deposits as are not required by the Library."
