The General Motors Hour
''The General Motors Hour'' was an Australian radio and television drama series. Radio The radio series was a regular one hour drama broadcast over the Macquarie Radio Network at 8 pm on Thursays. It is believed to have commenced in the late 1940s and lasted into the early 1960s. Producers included Robert Peach and Harry Dearth. The announcer was John Dease. 15 episodes are available on the Old Time Radio website. Television The television version of The General Motors Hour was a loosely scheduled occasional series which aired on Australian television from 1960 to 1962. John Fegan (actor)
John Joseph Fegan (19 July 1908 – 9 April 1981) was an Irish Australian film and television actor. He appeared in many Australian films and television shows in the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s, including the long-running series ''Homicide (Australian TV series), Homicide'' as Inspector Jack Connolly. He was born in Belfast, in what is now Northern Ireland. Early life Fegan grew up in the Falls Road (Belfast), Falls Road area of Belfast and moved to Australia in 1929. He made his way to Sydney where he worked as a labourer, including as a harbourside worker on The Hungry Mile during the Great Depression. He became involved in the worker's theatre movement, in particular with the New Theatre (Newtown), New Theatre League from the 1930s onwards, receiving generally positive reviews for his performances. The National Film and Sound Archive of Australia (NFSA), known as ScreenSound Australia from 1999 to 2004, is Australia's audiovisual archive, responsible for developing, preserving, maintaining, promoting and providing access to a national collection of film, television, sound, radio, video games, new media, and related documents and artefacts. ''The Canberra Times'' is a daily newspaper in Canberra, Australia, which is published by Australian Community Media. It was founded in 1926, and has changed ownership and format several times. Ken Shadie
Kenneth George Shadie (8 December 1935 – 29 June 2020) was an Australian screenwriter, who co-wrote the Academy Award-nominated screenplay for the film ''Crocodile Dundee'' with Paul Hogan and John Cornell. Biography Shadie was born in the Sydney suburb of Bondi and raised in Lane Cove. He was the son of Albert Nicholas Shadie, who was of Lebanese Christian descent, and Edith (née Rayner) from Manchester, England. From 1964 to 1968, he was chief writer and script editor of ''The Mavis Bramston Show''. He worked on its follow up ''News Revue''. In 1974, he was a script writer for the soap opera ''Number 96''. In the late 1970s he was writing a revue for Ron Frazer. This was seen by Paul Hogan who loved the writing and asked to meet Shadie. Reg Lye
Reginald Thomas Lye (14 October 1912 – 23 March 1988), was an Australian actor who worked extensively in Australia and England. He was one of the busiest Australian actors of the 1950s, appearing in the majority of locally shot features at the time, as well as on stage and radio. Lee Robinson called him "one of the best character actors in Australia." He moved to England in the early 1960s, (also starring in television, such as ''Mrs Thursday'' and ''The Wednesday Play''), but returned to Australia when the film industry revived in the 1970s.
