Greens–European Free Alliance
The Greens/European Free Alliance (Greens/EFA) is a political group of the European Parliament composed primarily of green and regionalist political parties. Formed following the 1999 European elections for the 5th European Parliament, the Greens/EFA group now consists of five distinct European political parties, namely the larger European Green Party (EGP) and part of the European Free Alliance (EFA) and the smaller European Pirate Party (PPEU), Volt Europa (Volt), and part of Animal Politics EU (APEU). Green politics, or ecopolitics, is a political ideology that aims to foster an ecologically sustainable society often, but not always, rooted in environmentalism, nonviolence, social justice and grassroots democracy. Maria Amélia Santos
Maria Amélia do Carmo Mota Santos (born 25 August 1952) is a Portuguese politician and academic. She served as a Member of the European Parliament from 1989 to 1994 and a member of the Assembly of the Republic from 1985 to 1989 and from 1999 to 2005. Born in Lisbon, Portugal, she graduated from the University of Lisbon and earned a PhD in Institutional and Political History from NOVA University Lisbon. After graduating, she taught primary school in Lisbon and secondary school in Almada. Santos began her political career in 1985, winning a seat in the Assembly of the Republic in the 1985 Portuguese legislative election. She served as a member of the Unitary Democratic Coalition, an alliance between Ecologist Party "The Greens" and the Portuguese Communist Party. Alexander Langer (22 February 1946 – 3 July 1995) was an Italian journalist, peace activist, politician, translator, and teacher. Biography Born on 22 February 1946 in Sterzing, South Tyrol, a province of Italy inhabited by a German-speaking population, he became involved early on in local political issues, which at the time centered on the interethnic relations in the region, which after two world wars and decades of tensions and terrorism were very tense. European Parliament
The European Parliament (EP) is one of the legislative bodies of the European Union and one of its seven institutions. Together with the Council of the European Union (known as the Council and informally as the Council of Ministers), it adopts European legislation, following a proposal by the European Commission.
