''The Greatest Hits'' is a greatest hits compilation released by Australian rock band INXS in 1994. The compilation was a chart success in Australia, peaking at number two, and in the UK, where it reached number three. It stalled at number 112 on the US ''Billboard'' 200; however, it was eventually certified platinum. The album included two new songs: "The Strangest Party (These Are the Times)" and "Deliver Me". Track listing ''The Greatest Hits'' was originally released with different tracks in the UK, US, Australia, Brazil, and Mexico, and also as a limited edition release with ''All Juiced Up'' in the UK and Australia. Japan's release carried the US track listing, and all other nations received the UK track listing. The album was subsequently re-released in 1996 in Australia and in 1997 in Japan with the UK track listing. INXS (a word play, phonetic play on "in excess") were an Australian Rock music, rock band, formed as The Farriss Brothers in 1977 in Sydney, New South Wales. The band's founding members were bassist Garry Gary Beers, main composer and keyboardist Andrew Farriss, drummer Jon Farriss, guitarist Tim Farriss, lead singer and main lyricist Michael Hutchence, and guitarist and saxophonist Kirk Pengilly. For 20 years, INXS was fronted by Hutchence, whose magnetic stage presence made him the focal point of the band. Initially known for their New wave music, new wave/pop music, pop style, the band later developed a harder Pub rock (Australia), pub rock style that included funk and dance music, dance elements. Need You Tonight
"Need You Tonight" is a song by the Australian rock band INXS, released as the first single from their 1987 album, ''Kick'', as well as the fourth song on the album. It is the only INXS single to reach No. 1 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100. It also achieved their highest charting position in the United Kingdom, where the song reached number two on the UK Singles Chart; however, this peak was only reached after a re-release of the single in November 1988. "The One Thing" is a song by Australian rock group INXS, released in July 1982 as the first single ahead of their third studio album, ''Shabooh Shoobah'', which appeared in October that year. At the 1982 Countdown Music Awards, the song was nominated for Best Australian Single. Background In January 1982 INXS toured New Zealand as support act for Cold Chisel. Band manager Chris Murphy became convinced their future no longer lay with Deluxe Records. RCA (who distributed Deluxe) had employed music lover Rockin' Rod Woods, who had been promoting Eric Clapton, Split Enz and some of the world's biggest acts. Background and composition The music was written by keyboardist Andrew Farriss, who recorded a blues-style demo; vocalist Michael Hutchence wrote the lyrics.
