The Great Van Robbery
''The Great Van Robbery'' is a low budget 1959 British crime film. Plot Scotland Yard teams up with Interpol to discover the origins of stolen money in a private bank account in Rio de Janeiro. Assigning their best detective Caesar Smith to the case, the money is soon traced to a robbery from a Royal Mint van. Investigations lead to a coffee storehouse where a worker is found murdered and the remaining loot discovered. Cast Notes The Britmovie website has referred to it as a "routine British crime thriller from second-feature specialists the Danziger Brothers. Denis Shaw convincingly plays Interpol detective Caesar Smith and belies his hefty build to display a nifty line in judo and self-defence." Max Varnel (21 March 1925 – 15 January 1996) was a French-born Australian film and television director who worked primarily in the United Kingdom and Australia. Biography Born Max Le Bozec in Paris, France, he was the son of the film director Marcel Varnel. Vera Fusek
Vera Fusek (born Vera Vuseck, 20 May 1932 – 8 August 2021) was a Czechoslovak-born British actress. Life and career Fusek was born in Prague and attended a Swiss finishing school from around 1946. In 1948, her family left Czechoslovakia and settled in Great Britain. After graduating from RADA, she travelled to New York City in 1955 hoping to work on Broadway, but her period in American theatre was brief and she returned to London. She was known for her work in films such as ''Treasures of the Snow'' (1980) and ''The Great Van Robbery'' (1959). Guido Lorraine (2 September 1912 – 31 December 2009) was a Polish-born actor, musician and singer, known primarily for his roles in war films. He was also sometimes known by the stage name Guy Borucki. Lorraine appeared in twenty-eight films during his career, as well as many theatre productions.
