''The Great Battle'' () is a 2018 South Korean historical film, historical epic film, epic action film directed by Kim Kwang-sik. It stars Jo In-sung, Nam Joo-hyuk, and Park Sung-woong. The film was released in South Korea on September 19, 2018. Premise A historical film about the siege of Ansi City, Ansi Fortress and the epic Siege of Ansi, eighty-eight day battle that Yang Manchun and his Goguryeo troops fought against 500,000 invading Tang dynasty men to defend it. Kim Kwang-sik (born March 6, 1972) is a South Korean film director and screenwriter. He directed the romantic comedy ''My Dear Desperado'' (2010) and the thriller (genre), crime thriller ''Tabloid Truth'' (2014). Career Early works Kim Kwang-sik first began working as a screenwriter in 1997, on the Korean drama, television drama ''Snail'' starring Lee Jung-jae and Lee Mi-sook. Ansi Fortress
Ansi City (; Goguryeo: 安寸忽; ), also known as Ansi Fortress, was a Goguryeo fortified city in present-day Liaoning province, China. The city was founded in early 4th century after Goguryeo conquered the area, and received its name from a Han dynasty prefecture of the same name. The ruins of the city are identified with a site at Yingchengzi (), to the southeast of Haicheng. Ansi was a major city of the Goguryeo and the scene of a major siege and battle between the Goguryeo and Tang dynasty China in 645 AD.
