The Gorge '98
''The Gorge '98'' is a live box set by Vermont-based jam band Phish. Released on December 9, 2022, it documents their performances at the Gorge Amphitheatre in Grant County, Washington on July 16 and 17, 1998. Background The band's summer 1998 tour saw them add songs into their repertoire that would later be included on that year's '' The Story of the Ghost'' album (including setlist staples "Roggae" and "The Moma Dance", the latter of which was performed during the second set of the July 16 show) and continue the funk-influenced improvisational style that came to the forefront the previous year. Additionally, the 1997-1998 era saw the band's jams increase in their average length by a wide margin, exemplified by the second set of the July 17 show, which lasts over an hour despite being made up of only four songs. Phish
Phish is an American rock band formed in Burlington, Vermont, in 1983. The band is known for musical improvisation, extended jams, blending of genres, and a dedicated fan base. The band consists of guitarist Trey Anastasio, bassist Mike Gordon, drummer Jon Fishman, and keyboardist Page McConnell, all of whom perform vocals, with Anastasio being the lead vocalist. The band was formed by Anastasio, Gordon, Fishman and guitarist Jeff Holdsworth, who were joined by McConnell in 1985. Holdsworth departed the band in 1986, and the lineup has remained stable since. Phish began to perform outside of New England in the late 1980s and experienced a rise in popularity in the mid 1990s. Tom Marshall (singer)
Tom Marshall is an American lyricist, keyboardist and singer-songwriter best known for his association with Trey Anastasio and the rock band Phish. He has been the primary external lyricist for Phish during their career (1983–2004, 2009–present), with songwriting credits for more than 95 originals. In addition to his songwriting work, Marshall also fronts the rock band Amfibian and hosts the Phish podcast ''Under the Scales''. Marshall is the co-founder of Osiris, a podcast network in partnership with Jambase. Personal life Marshall attended Princeton Day School in New Jersey with Anastasio. Clifton Chenier (June 25, 1925 – December 12, 1987), was an American Creole musician known as a pioneer of zydeco, a style of music which arose from Creole music, with rhythm and blues, R&B, blues, and Cajun music, Cajun influences. He sang and played the accordion and won a Grammy Award in 1983. He was known as the King of Zydeco, and also billed as the King of the South. Butch Hancock (born July 12, 1945 in Lubbock, Texas, United States), is an American country/folk music recording artist and songwriter. Hancock is a member of The Flatlanders along with Joe Ely and Jimmie Dale Gilmore, but he has principally performed solo. Jon Fishman (born February 19, 1965) is an American drummer known for his work with the band Phish, which he co-founded in 1983, and which was, in part, named after him. He is credited with co-writing nineteen Phish songs, eight with a solo credit. Early life Fishman was born in Philadelphia and grew up in Syracuse, New York. Fishman had a passion for the drums from an early age and emulated John Bonham, the drummer for Led Zeppelin, Bill Bruford of Yes, and Keith Moon of The Who. The Dude Of Life
Steve Pollak (born ), best known by his stage name The Dude of Life, is a musician and lyricist. Early life Steve Pollak is from White Plains, New York. He attended high school in the early 1980s. He earned the alias Dude of Life in high school while playing with the teenage band Space Antelope, along with fellow students Dudley Taft and Trey Anastasio. While going to boarding school at Taft in Watertown, Connecticut, he got the name from classmates when he appeared in a friend's dorm with orange goggles and draped in a tapestry, and saying otherworldly things. In his band Space Antelope, they wrote their own music and covered Grateful Dead songs. The Dude of Life and Trey Anastasio continued jamming together at the University of Vermont.
