The Golf Specialist
''The Golf Specialist'' is a 1930 pre-Code comedy short subject from RKO Pictures, starring W. C. Fields. It was his first talkie. The film was shot in Fort Lee, New Jersey when many early film studios in America's first motion picture industry were based there in the early part of the 20th century. The film features lines such as "I would never hit a woman, not even my own mother" and "Stand clear and keep your eye on the ball", a line Fields also used in the golf scene in ''The Dentist'' (1932). Fields had first performed his golf routine on film in his silent feature ''So's Your Old Man'' (1926) and reprised it in that film's sound remake, ''You're Telling Me!'' (1934). Plot In a Florida hotel, the House Detective's wife likes to flirt with other men. The House Detective catches her flirting with a man, and he bodily throws him out. Monte Brice
Monte Brice (July 12, 1891 – November 8, 1962) was a writer, producer, and director of films in the United States. In 1926, he was promoted from scenario writer to director and given a five-year contract with Famous Players-Lasky. A 1928 article states he had left Paramount and was freelancing. In the later years of his decades long career in film he worked with Bob Hope. Brice was best known as gag writer who worked on Hope's radio and film scripts. He married Doris Hill. Brice had two daughters and three grandchildren. He died in London while working with Hope on film projects. Harriet MacGibbon (born Harriet E. McGibbon; October 5, 1905 – February 8, 1987) was an American film, stage and television actress best known for her role as the insufferably snobbish, "blue-blooded Bostonian" Mrs. Margaret Drysdale in the sitcom ''The Beverly Hillbillies''. Career MacGibbon joined the stock company of Edward Clarke Lilley at Akron, Ohio. She then went to San Francisco and played leading roles for Henry Duffy. In Louisville, Kentucky, she acted with Wilton Lackaye, Edmund Breese, William Faversham, Tom Wise and Nance O'Neil. There were regular productions, including ''Ned McCobb's Daughter'', ''The Front Page'', ''The Big Fight'', and a "transcontinental tour" starring MacGibbon in ''The Big Fight'', which began in Boston, Massachusetts, took in New Haven, Connecticut and Hartford, Connecticut, and ended at Caine's storehouse. RKO Radio Pictures Inc., commonly known as RKO Pictures or simply RKO, was an American film production and distribution company, one of the major film studio, "Big Five" film studios of Cinema of the United States, Hollywood's Golden Age.
