The Goat Horn
''The Goat Horn'' ( bg, Козият рог, translit. Koziyat rog) is a 1972 Bulgarian drama film directed by Metodi Andonov, starring Anton Gorchev and Katya Paskaleva. The film is set in 17th Century Bulgaria where Kara Ivan's wife is raped and killed by four local Ottoman feudal masters. Having disguised his daughter as a boy, and trained her in the masculine art of warfare over a period of ten years, they set out to take revenge. The film won a Special Prize of the Jury at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. Ramón Mas Alpuente (1949–2015), best known as Moncho Alpuente, was a Spanish journalist, writer and musician. Born on 23 May 1949 in Madrid, he studied journalism. A noted figure of the Movida madrileña, he performed in several musical bands including Las Madres del Cordero, Desde Santurce a Bilbao Blues Band, Moncho Alpuente y Los Kwai and The Moncho Alpuente Experience. Bulgaria has submitted films for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film since 1970. The award is handed out annually by the United States-based Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to a feature length motion picture produced outside the U.S. that contains primarily non-English language dialogue. It was not created until the 1956 Academy Awards, in which a competitive Academy Award of Merit was created for non-English speaking films, and has been given annually since. Since 1970, Bulgaria has submitted twenty-eight films for consideration. No Bulgarian film has yet been nominated for an Oscar, although their 2009 submission was shortlisted for the 2010 Best Foreign Language Film award. This is a list of submissions to the 45th Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film. The Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film was created in 1956 by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to honour non-English-speaking films produced outside the United States. The award is handed out annually, and is accepted by the winning film's director, although it is considered an award for the submitting country as a whole. Countries are invited by the Academy to submit their best films for competition according to strict rules, with only one film being accepted from each country.
