The Girl In My Life
''The Girl In My Life'' is an American daytime television show spotlighting women who made a difference in people's lives. The show was hosted by Fred Holliday and the announcers were Bob Warren and John Harlan. The program aired on ABC during 1973 and 1974. The show was created by William T. Naud. It replaced the original version of ''The Dating Game'' on ABC's weekday schedule, afternoons at 2:30 p.m. Eastern Time. Format Each day on the show featured three to four vignettes of women. The people whose lives they touched would offer a testimonial statement about their special woman, always ending with the phrase "My name is _____, and the girl in my life is ____." The woman would come out on stage and be interviewed by Holliday, and then would receive a modest prize package or an item of special meaning to the woman. Bill Carruthers
William H. Carruthers (September 27, 1930 – March 2, 2003) was an American television executive who gained his first fame as the director of '' The Soupy Sales Show'' at Detroit television station WXYZ-TV. He also directed the Ernie Kovacs-helmed game show, '' Take a Good Look'', for ABC from 1959 to 1961. Carruthers was born in Detroit, Michigan. He served in the Air Force for four years, and after serving, he took up a job at Detroit ABC O & O (Owned and Operated) WXYZ-TV. One day, he showed up to the station to work when he was told at the last minute, the regular director was unable to direct The Soupy Sales Show, he stepped in to direct the show. He was named the permanent director, and moved with his family to Los Angeles in 1959 upon the show becoming nationally distributed. Fred Grossinger (January 1, 1936 – November 21, 1995), better known as Fred Holliday, was an American stage, film, and television actor. He starred in more than one thousand television commercials from the late 1950s through the 1980s. John Harlan (announcer)
John Henry Harlan (December 21, 1925 – February 27, 2017) was an American television announcer who worked on numerous television projects for over 40 years, particularly game and variety shows. He was from Sonoma County, California. Perhaps his best-known work was for the Bob Hope specials aired on NBC during the 1960s through the 1990s. Among game show fans, his most memorable outings were ''You Don't Say!'' and versions of ''Name That Tune'' produced between 1974 and 1985. Harlan attended California State University, Fresno, graduating in 1948. He served as class president for the fall term. At school he was friends with Wendell Bell, serving as his best man at his 1947 wedding. He married Beverly Christensen, who was a model on ''Queen for a Day'' where Harlan was an announcer. Harlan died on February 27, 2017 at the age of 91. Edward Woodley Kalehoff Jr. (born September 1, 1945) is an American television composer who specializes in compositions for television, known for his work on the Moog synthesizer. Kalehoff composed the musical themes to the game shows ''The Price Is Right'' and '' Double Dare'', as well as for ''ABC World News Tonight'' and ''Monday Night Football''. Early life Kalehoff was born and raised in Jackson, Mississippi. His father, Edward Woodley "Woody" Kalehoff Sr., played piano in the White House for presidents Franklin D. Roosevelt and Harry S. ''The Dating Game'' is an American television game show that first aired on December 20, 1965, and was the first of many shows created and packaged by Chuck Barris from the 1960s through the 1980s. ABC dropped the show on July 6, 1973, but it continued in syndication for another year (1973–1974) as ''The New Dating Game''. The program was revived three additional times in syndication afterward, with the first from 1978 to 1980 as ''The All-New Dating Game'', the second from 1986 to 1989, and the third from 1996 to 1999. Jim Lange hosted ''The Dating Game'' for its entire ABC network run and for the 1973 and 1978 syndicated editions. ''The Carol Burnett Show'' is an American variety/sketch comedy television show that originally ran on CBS from September 11, 1967, to March 29, 1978, for 279 episodes, and again with nine episodes in fall 1991. It starred Carol Burnett, Harvey Korman, Vicki Lawrence, and Lyle Waggoner. In 1975, frequent guest star Tim Conway became a regular after Waggoner left the series.
