Tommy Collins (filmmaker)
Tommy Collins (died July 2022), sometimes referred to as Tom Collins, was an Irish filmmaker. Two of Collins's Irish language works (''Kings'' and ''The Gift'') have been Ireland's entries into the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film, Foreign Language Films category at the Academy Awards. Career Collins' broadcast career began as the photographer on the documentary ''Mother Ireland'' (1986), which won a Femme Cathodique Cinematography award. His later works include ''Hush-a-Bye Baby'' (1989) (producer) with Sinéad O'Connor and Emer McCourt, ''The Bishop's Story'' (1994) (co-producer) with Donal McCann, ''Bogwoman'' (1997) (director) with Rachael Dowling and Peter Mullan, and ''Dead Long Enough'' (2006) (director) with Michael Sheen. He also wrote and directed ''Teenage Kicks – The Undertones'' (2006), a "rockumentary" on the Derry band The Undertones. Owen McDonnell
Owen McDonnell (born 1974) is an Irish actor best known for playing Garda Sergeant Jack Driscoll in RTÉ Television's '' Single-Handed'' and Niko Polastri in BBC's ''Killing Eve''. Early life McDonnell was born in Galway in Ireland. He attended the Central School of Speech and Drama in London, England, moving to the city in 1996. Before breaking into film and television, McDonnell did a lot of theatre in Ireland and the United Kingdom. Career McDonnell had a role in the 2003 feature film '' Conspiracy of Silence''. It was RTÉ Television's police drama ''Single-Handed'' that was McDonnell's television career break. He starred in all four series of the programme and was nominated for an IFTA Award for the role in 2011. Ireland is one of one hundred countries that have submitted films for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film. The award is handed out annually by the United States Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to a feature-length motion picture produced outside the United States that contains primarily non-English dialogue. This is a list of submissions to the 87th Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) has invited the film industries of a number of countries to submit their best film for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film every year since the award was created in 1956. It is presented annually by the Academy to a feature-length film produced outside the United States with primarily non-English dialogue. The Foreign Language Film Award Committee oversees the process, reviewing all films submitted. For the 87th Academy Awards, held on 22 February 2015, a submitted motion picture must be released theatrically in its respective country between 1 October 2013 and 30 September 2014.
