The Ghost Train (1933 Film)
''The Ghost Train'' (Hungarian: ''Kísértetek vonata'') is a 1933 Hungarian comedy mystery thriller film directed by Lajos Lázár and starring Jenö Törzs, Marika Rökk and Ella Gombaszögi.Cunningham p.46 It is an adaptation of Arnold Ridley's 1923 play '' The Ghost Train''. It was shot at the Hunnia Studios in Budapest. The film's sets were designed by the art director István Szirontai Lhotka. A Romanian version of the story was also produced the same year. Synopsis A group of passengers are stranded in an English country station the very night that a famed ghostly express train is due to appear. Hunnia Studios
Hunnia Film Studio was the largest and most significant sound film studio in Hungary until its nationalization in 1948. Its predecessor, Corvin Film Studio, founded by Alexander Korda in 1917, was the most important Hungarian silent film company, while its successor, Mafilm, became the largest Hungarian film company, still operating today. Foundation Corvin Film Studio was purchased at an auction by the state-founded Filmipari Alap (Film Industry Fund). On December 19, 1928, Hunnia Film Factory was founded in Budapest. Prime Minister, István Bethlen, was determined to consolidate the Hungarian film industry and restore its old prestige. Therefore, the film factory was equipped with the most modern, German technology. The rebuilt studio was handed over on April 28, 1931. Oscar Beregi Sr
Oscar Beregi (born Oszkár Beregi, 24 January 1876 – 18 October 1965) was a Hungarian-Jewish actor who appeared primarily in German films. Biography Beregi was born in Budapest, Hungary, and was the father of actor Oscar Beregi Jr. He acted on stage in Hungary for 21 years. In April 1920, as "the only Jewish actor of prominence" acting with the Budapest National Theatre, he was the subject of a demonstration that led to the group's changing its program and presenting a play in which Beregi did not participate. In the early 1920s, Beregi was exiled from Hungary because of his "alleged political activities". During the exile he acted in Vienna for four years. He served as president of the Film Actors' Association of Vienna. Beregi appeared in 27 films between 1916 and 1953. He played Professor Baum in Fritz Lang's film ''Das Testament des Dr. Mabuse''.
