The Ghost Dance (film)
''The Ghost Dance'' is a 1982 American Western slasher film directed and co-written by Peter F. Buffa, and starring Julie Amato, Victor Mohica, Henry Bal, and Frank Salsedo. Its plot follows a Native American shaman who becomes possessed by an evil spirit that drives him to kill. It was the first slasher film to be based around and feature Native American characters. Plot The spirit of a long-dead warrior, Nahalla, possesses Aranjo, a local Native American man, after an archaeologist, Dr. Kay Foster, unearths Nahalla's remains during an exploratory excavation. Through Aranjo, Nahalla exacts a murderous rampage. Victor Mohica (born Victor Mojica; July 31, 1933 – October 17, 2019) was an American actor. Though of Puerto Rican descent, he often portrayed Native Americans in his roles. His works include guest-star episode of ''Dark Shadows'' television series in 1969, featured actor in an episode of the ''Bearcats!'' television series in the fall of 1971, featured actor in the pilot episode of '' ''Ellery Queen'''' television series in 1975, '' ''Little House on the Prairie'''' Pilot Movie in 1974 and ''West Side Story'' Broadway version in 1968. An exploitation film is a film that tries to succeed financially by exploiting current trends, niche genres, or lurid content. Exploitation films are generally low-quality "B movies", though some set trends, attract critical attention, become historically important, and even gain a cult following. History Exploitation films may feature suggestive or explicit sex, sensational violence, drug use, nudity, gore, destruction, rebellion, mayhem, and the bizarre. Such films were first seen in their modern form in the early 1920s, but they were popularized in the 60s and 70s with the general relaxing of censorship and cinematic taboos in the U.S. and Europe.
