The Gardens on Havana is a shopping mall in Aurora, Colorado, United States. Built in 1971 as Buckingham Square, the mall underwent a decline in tenancy throughout the 1990s which resulted in the closure of most stores. Demolished between 2007 and 2008, it was redeveloped and reopened in 2009 as a lifestyle center. Major tenants include Target, Dick's Sporting Goods, and Kohl's. History Buckingham Square Mall was built by Sherman Dreiseszun and opened for business on August 5, 1971. Among the major tenants of the mall were Joslins and Montgomery Ward department stores, along with a Safeway supermarket, a Woolworth dime store, and two local chains: Fashion Bar department store and Dave Cook Sporting Goods. Mervyns
Mervyn's was an American middle-scale department store chain based in Hayward, California, and founded by Mervin G. Morris (1920–2021). It carried national brands of clothing, footwear, bedding, furniture, jewelry, beauty products, electronics, and housewares. Many of the company's stores were opened in shopping malls; however, some locations were operated independently. Based on 2005 revenue, Mervyn's was the 83rd largest retailer in the United States. In 2006, Mervyn's had 189 stores in 10 states. One year later, Mervyn's had reduced its store count to 177 stores in seven states. On October 17, 2008, the company announced that it would liquidate its assets through a Chapter 7 filing. All remaining locations were closed by the end of the year. Sherman W. Dreiseszun (May 23, 1922 – December 3, 2007) was a banker and real estate developer who built Kansas City's two tallest buildings as well as several shopping malls throughout the Midwest. Early life Dreiseszun was the son of Polish Jewish immigrants. He was born at 1734 Prospect Avenue in the 18th and Vine Jazz District of Kansas City, Missouri.
