''The Garden'' is an album by the American band Silver Apples. The duo began recording it in 1969, but it remained unfinished until 1998. It was released that year on Whirlybird Records. Silver Apples
Silver Apples were an American electronic rock group from New York, active between 1967 and 1970, before reforming in the mid-1990s. It was composed of Simeon (born Simeon Oliver Coxe III, June 4, 1938 – September 8, 2020), who performed on a primitive synthesizer of his own devising; and, until his death in 2005, drummer Danny Taylor. The duo were among the first to employ electronic music techniques outside of academia, applying them to 1960s rock and pop styles. As part of New York's underground music scene, the band released two albums—''Silver Apples'' (1968) and ''Contact'' (1969)—to poor sales. They began recording a third album before a lawsuit by Pan Am, owing to the use of their logo in the artwork of ''Contact'', forced the end of the group and its label Kapp in 1970. Bully Records
Bully Records was an independent record label founded in 2002 in Montreal. It is maintained, funded, and run by Marc-Olivier Boileau (Marco). The label first released mostly 7-inch singles and EPs, but has since expanded to release CDs, box sets, and DVDs. Most of Bully's lineup consists mainly of hip hop producers. They have since branched out and released the work of instrumentalists from many different genres. One example of their projects is ''Obsession'', a compilation of rare psychedelic music from countries such as Peru, Turkey, India, Brazil, Uruguay and Argentina. ''Contact'' is the second studio album by American band Silver Apples, released in 1969 by record label Kapp. Contact Bart Bealmear of AllMusic wrote, "Aside from Simeon's use of a banjo on a couple of tracks, the music on ''Contact'' does not differ from that of their debut. One aspect improved upon was the lyrics; many possess the same "cosmic" element found on ''Silver Apples'', but others are full of bitterness, pain, paranoia and confusion. In turn, the lead oscillator is used to greater effect, reflecting this newfound intensity." Release ''Contact'' was released in 1969 by record label Kapp. The album was re-released in 1997 by MCA Records compiled with the band's first album, ''Silver Apples''. ''Trouser Press'' was a rock and roll magazine started in New York in 1974 as a mimeographed fanzine by editor/publisher Ira Robbins, fellow fan of the Who Dave Schulps and Karen Rose under the name "Trans-Oceanic Trouser Press" (a reference to a song by the Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band and an acronymic play on the British TV show ''Top of the Pops)''. Mustang Sally (song)
"Mustang Sally" is a rhythm and blues (R&B) song written and first recorded by Mack Rice in 1965. It was released on the Blue Rock label (4014) in May 1965 with "Sir Mack Rice" as the artist. The song uses an AAB layout with a 24-bar structure. It gained greater popularity when Wilson Pickett covered it the following year on a single, a version that was also released on the 1966 album '' The Wicked Pickett''. Also in 1966, John Lee Hooker recorded an entirely different song with a similar title — "Mustang Sally & GTO." Bonny "Mack" Rice (November 10, 1933 – June 27, 2016), sometimes credited as Sir Mack Rice, was an American songwriter and singer. His best-known composition and biggest hit as a solo performer was " Mustang Sally". He also wrote " Respect Yourself" with Luther Ingram. Life and career Rice was born in Clarksdale, Mississippi. In 1950, his family moved to Detroit, Michigan, where he began his work in the R&B field, performing with the Five Scalders in 1956. From 1957–63, he performed with the Falcons, a group whose members included Eddie Floyd, Wilson Pickett and Joe Stubbs. He performed as a solo vocalist in the years to follow, but his biggest successes were as songwriter for other artists on labels like Stax and others in the 1960s and following decades.
