''The Game of Funk'' is the only studio album by American R&B/hip hop quartet Sons of Funk. It was released on April 21, 1998, via No Limit/Priority Records. Production was handled by Sons of Funk themselves, as well as KLC and Mo B. Dick, with Master P serving as executive producer. It features guest appearances from Master P, Silkk the Shocker and Mo B. Dick. The album peaked at number 44 on the ''Billboard'' 200 and number 14 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart in the United States. Its lead single "Pushin' Inside You" made it to number 97 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100, and its second single " I Got the Hook Up!", which was previously included in 1998 crime comedy film ''I Got the Hook-Up'' soundtrack, reached number 16 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100. Sons of Funk is an American R&B group and production group from Richmond, California, United States, that were formerly artists on No Limit Records. They had great success in the late 1990s and are best known for their hit singles "Pushin Inside You" and " I Got the Hook Up!". Pen & Pixel Graphics, Inc is a Houston, Texas-based graphics design firm that specializes in musical album covers, especially for gangsta rap artists in the Southern United States. For a long time, it was the house design firm for No Limit Records, Cash Money Records, and Suave House Records. The company was started in 1992 by brothers Aaron and Shawn Brauch. The Brauch brothers and their staff worked with over 8,000 clients and completed 19,180 album covers before the company closed its doors in 2003. The brothers cited peer-to-peer file sharing website Napster and the September 11 attacks as reasons for the close; artists were reluctant to fly to Houston to view artwork that listeners would be unlikely to see. Gangsta Rap
Gangsta rap or gangster rap, initially called reality rap, emerged in the mid- to late 1980s as a controversial hip-hop subgenre whose lyrics assert the culture and values typical of American street gangs and street hustlers. Many gangsta rappers flaunt associations with real street gangs, like the Crips and Bloods. ''I Got the Hook-Up'' is a 1998 American crime comedy film, starring Anthony Johnson, Master P, Ice Cube, C-Murder and directed by Michael Martin. This was No Limit Records' first theatrical release. The ''Billboard'' Hot 100 is the music industry standard record chart in the United States for songs, published weekly by '' Billboard'' magazine. Chart rankings are based on sales (physical and digital), radio play, and online streaming in the United States. The weekly tracking period for sales was initially Monday to Sunday when Nielsen started tracking sales in 1991, but was changed to Friday to Thursday in July 2015. This tracking period also applies to compiling online streaming data. Radio airplay, which, unlike sales figures and streaming, is readily available on a real-time basis, is also tracked on a Friday to Thursday cycle effective with the chart dated July 17, 2021 (previously Monday to Sunday and before July 2015, Wednesday to Tuesday).
