''The Gamble'' (originally titled ''La partita'') is a 1988 Italian comedy film directed by Carlo Vanzina. It was shot in Rome and Venice. The film is based on the novel with the same name written by Alberto Ongaro. It was generally panned by critics. Carlo Vanzina
Carlo Vanzina (13 March 1951 – 8 July 2018) was an Italian film director, producer and screenwriter. Vanzina was born in Rome, the son of Maria Teresa Nati and film director Stefano Vanzina and brother of Enrico Vanzina. In English-speaking countries, he is likely best known for his 1985 giallo '' Nothing Underneath'', starring Donald Pleasence and Renee Simonsen, which received a substantial home video release and aired on cable frequently. He would effectively remake his own film in 2011 as ''The Last Fashion Show'' with Richard E. Grant. Many of his projects were made for Italian television with English-speaking actors, and in turn these films received English-language home video releases in America. He frequently worked with models-turned-actresses such as Renee Simonsen, Carole Bouquet, Carol Alt, Lauren Hutton, and Elle Macpherson. Karina Huff
Carrina "Karina" Huff (21 January 1961 – 18 April 2016) was a British actress, showgirl and television personality, mainly active in Italy. Life and career Born in London, Huff was first known in Italy as a showgirl in the Rai 2 variety show ''Signori si parte'' and as the television presenter of the Canale 5 musical program ''Popcorn''."Torna Karina Huff". ''La Stampa''. 28 April 1982, pg. 29. She later had roles of weight in a series of successful teen comedy films, notably Carlo Vanzina's ''Time for Loving'', its immediate sequel ''Sapore di mare 2'' and ''Vacanze di Natale''. In 1989 she was in the main cast of the TV-series ''Zanzibar''. Following the failure of her marriage with an Italian land surveyor, Huff left showbusiness and returned with her son to London, where she became a teacher.
