The Galloway School
The Galloway School is a private school in Atlanta, Georgia, United States. It was founded by Elliott Galloway in 1969 and preschool through grade 12. History In 1969, Elliott Galloway, his wife Kitty and his friend Ross Arnold founded The Galloway School. Galloway had served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War, and later taught at the Westminster Schools and served as principal of Westminster Middle School. He was named headmaster at Holy Innocents in 1965. The Galloway School opened its doors in 1969 to 380 students; the first class graduated in 1971. Martin Luther King III was among the first students. King enrolled after he was denied admission at The Lovett School due to his race. Martin Luther King III (born October 23, 1957) is an American human rights activist, philanthropist and advocate. The oldest son and oldest living child of civil rights leaders Martin Luther King Jr. and Coretta Scott King, King served as the 4th President of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference from 1997 to 2004. The Lovett School
The Lovett School is a coeducational, kindergarten through twelfth grade independent school located in north Atlanta, Georgia, United States. History In September 1926, Eva Edwards Lovett, an innovative educator who emphasized the development of the whole child, officially began the Lovett School with 20 boys and girls in first through third grades at a former home in Midtown Atlanta. By 1936, Lovett was able to become a true country day school, with a move to a wooded campus north of the city off West Wesley Road. In 1963, the Lovett School became the focus of a desegregation controversy when it rejected the applications of three black students, including Martin Luther King III. At the center of the debate were the school's ties to the Episcopal Diocese of Atlanta, which had been established in 1954. Amanda Doherty (born September 16, 1997) is an American professional golfer who plays on the LPGA Tour. Amateur career She started playing golf at 13. Professional career She turned professional in 2020, playing on the Symetra Tour through 2021. She played in nine events, making the cut in seven of them.
