The Freed Weed
''The Freed Weed'' is a compilation album by the American indie rock band Sebadoh. It was released by Homestead Records in 1990. It contains the band's second album, ''Weed Forestin''' (1990), in full, followed by 16 of the 32 tracks from their first album, ''The Freed Man'' (1989), along with two previously unavailable songs: "Little Man" and "Submarine." The song "Mothra" from ''The Freed Man'' is re-titled "Stop the Wheel" on this release. An expanded, remastered version of ''The Freed Man'' was released by Domino in 2006. ''The Freed Weed'' remains the only official release of ''Weed Forestin'' on CD, though it was self-released on CD and several other formats as a Sentridoh album by Lou Barlow on Bandcamp in 2012. Sebadoh
Sebadoh () is an American indie rock band formed in 1986 in Northampton, Massachusetts, by Eric Gaffney and Lou Barlow, with multi-instrumentalist Jason Loewenstein completing the line-up in 1989. Barlow co-created Sebadoh as an outlet for his songwriting when J. Mascis gradually took over creative control of Dinosaur Jr., in which Barlow plays bass guitar. Along with such bands as Pavement, Beat Happening and Guided by Voices, Sebadoh helped pioneer a lo-fi style of indie rock characterized by low-fidelity recording techniques that employed four-track cassette tape machines. The band's early output, such as ''The Freed Man'' and ''Weed Forestin''' (both released 1990), as well as ''Sebadoh III'' (1991), was typical of this style. The Freed Man
''The Freed Man'' is the debut album by Sebadoh (Lou Barlow and Eric Gaffney). The title refers to the Friedman Complex apartments at Smith College where Lou Barlow was living with his then-girlfriend Kathleen Billus. As Barlow says in the liner notes, "... we named our first co-headlining tape after the Friedman dormitory where we both were living against regulations, with our girlfriends on the Smith (all women's) College campus .." Domino re-released this album in 2007. The re-release contains 52 tracks instead of the original 32. Brand New Love
"Brand New Love" is a 1986 song written by Lou Barlow. It was first released independently by Barlow under the moniker Sentridoh but has since come to be associated with Sebadoh, the band Barlow formed with Eric Gaffney. Weed Forestin' recording Barlow made a four-track home recording of "Brand New Love" in 1986, during the same period that he was an active member of Dinosaur Jr. That four-track recording closes out the album ''Weed Forestin''', which was first self-released by Lou Barlow on cassette in 1987 under the name Sentridoh. In 1990, that same recording was officially and more broadly released by Homestead Records, but with the attribution changed to Sebadoh. Louis Knox Barlow (born July 17, 1966) is an American alternative rock musician and songwriter. A founding member of the groups Dinosaur Jr., Sebadoh and The Folk Implosion, Barlow is credited with helping to pioneer the lo-fi style of rock music in the late 1980s and early 1990s. His first band, which was formed in Amherst, Massachusetts, was Deep Wound. Barlow was born in Dayton, Ohio, and raised in Jackson, Michigan, and Westfield, Massachusetts. Barlow has released four solo albums, the latest of which is the May 28, 2021 release ''Reason to Live.'' Dinosaur Jr. Barlow attended high school in Westfield, Massachusetts, where he met Scott Helland. The two formed the Massachusetts-based hardcore punk band Deep Wound. Domino Recording Company or simply Domino is a British independent record label based in London. There is also a wing of the label based in Brooklyn, New York that handles releases in the United States, as well as a German division called Domino Deutschland and a French division called Domino France. "Yellow Submarine" is a song by the English rock band the Beatles from their 1966 album ''Revolver''. It was also issued on a double A-side single, paired with "Eleanor Rigby". Indie rock is a Music subgenre, subgenre of rock music that originated in the United States, United Kingdom and New Zealand from the 1970s to the 1980s. Lo-fi (also typeset as lofi or low-fi; short for low fidelity) is a music or production quality in which elements usually regarded as imperfections in the context of a recording or performance are present, sometimes as a deliberate choice.
