The Fortune Teller (1920 Film)
''The Fortune Teller'' is a lost 1920 American silent drama film directed by Albert Capellani and starring Marjorie Rambeau. It is based on a 1919 Broadway play, ''The Fortune Teller'', by Leighton Graves Osmun. The film was distributed by Robertson-Cole Distributors. Plot As described in a film magazine, Renee (Rambeau) finds herself unhappily married to scientist Horation Browning (Burton) with her baby being her only comfort. The monotony of her life is broken temporarily when gambler Tony Salviatti (Fernandez) attempts to commit suicide near the Browning home and is brought in. Renee assists in nursing him back to health, and Tony attempts to pay attentions to her. Horation sees this, becomes unreasonable in his jealousy and anger, and drives his wife from the house while keeping their son. Albert Capellani
Albert Capellani (23 August 1874 – 26 September 1931) was a French film director and screenwriter of the silent film, silent era. He directed films between 1905 and 1922. One of his brothers was the actor-sculptor Paul Capellani, and another, film director Roger Capellani. Biography Albert Capellani born in Paris in 1874. His father was a banker, and Capellani worked as a bank employee in his early years. Capellani, along with his brother Paul, studied acting under Charles le Bargy at the Conservatoire de Paris. Starting his career as an actor, he worked with the director André Antoine at the Théâtre Libre and the Odéon. He then began directing plays for the Odéon, working alongside the lauded actor and director Firmin Gémier. In 1903, he became the head of the Alhambra (Paris), Alhambra music hall in Paris. Eldon Raymond McKee (December 7, 1892 – October 3, 1984), also credited as Roy McKee, was an American stage and screen actor. His film debut was in the 1912 production ''The Lovers' Signal''. Over the next 23 years, he performed in no less than 172 additional films. Early life McKee was born in Keokuk, Iowa, to Albert N. McKee and Alice Yetter McKee. During World War I, he was an Army lieutenant in France and reportedly wore his uniform in four war-themed films. Stage and film careers On Broadway, McKee portrayed Jack Weaver in ''The Phantom Legion'' (1919). He also acted on stage in ''A Fool There Was'', ''The Fortune Teller'', and '' Madame X''. Marjorie Burnet Rambeau (July 15, 1889 – July 6, 1970) was an American film and stage actress. She began her stage career at age 12, and appeared in several silent films before debuting in her first sound film, '' Her Man'' (1930). She was twice nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her roles in '' Primrose Path'' (1940) and ''Torch Song'' (1953), and received the 1955 National Board of Review Award for Best Supporting Actress for her roles in ''A Man Called Peter'' and ''The View from Pompey's Head''. Burton was born in Gosport, Indiana and died in Woodland Hills, Los Angeles.
