''The Flying Ship'' (Ukrainian: летючий корабель; ''letuchiy korabel'', Russian: летучий корабль; ''letuchiy korabl'') is an East Slavic or Eastern European folk tale, considered a Ukrainian folk tale in some collections, as well as a Russian folk tale in others. In retellings, it is also called ''The Ship That Flew'', ''Fool of the World and the Flying Ship'', and ''The Fool and the Flying Ship''. Plot An old man and old woman had three sons, two wise and one foolish. The two wise sons were treated better than the foolish son. When the tsar offered his daughter in marriage for any man who could make a ship fly, the two wise sons were allowed to leave while the foolish son was not. Ukrainian ( uk, украї́нська мо́ва, translit=ukrainska mova, label=native name, ) is an East Slavic language of the Indo-European language family. ''The Flying Ship'' (Russian title ''Летучий корабль''), or ''The Fool of the World and the Flying Ship'', is a Russian fairy tale. Andrew Lang included it in ''The Yellow Fairy Book'' and Arthur Ransome in ''Old Peter's Russian Tales''. Uri Shulevitz illustrated a version of Ransome's tale, ''The Fool of the World and the Flying Ship'', for which he won the Caldecott Medal in 1969. Also, a made-for-television stop motion-animated film with the same name was released in the United Kingdom in 1990. It aired as part of WGBH's children's series, '' Long Ago and Far Away''. Rabbit Ears Productions also produced an audiotape version, featuring Robin Williams, which was released on Showtime in 1991. It aired as part of Rabbit Ears' series '' We All Have Tales''. "The Golden Goose" (german: Die goldene Gans) is a fairy tale collected by the Brothers Grimm (KHM 64). Story In the Brothers Grimm version, the hero is the youngest of three brothers, given the nickname Simpleton as he is not handsome or strong like his brothers. His eldest brother is sent into the forest to chop wood, fortified with a rich cake and a bottle of wine. He meets a little gray man who begs a morsel to eat and a swallow of wine but is rebuffed. The eldest brother later injures his arm falling into a tree and is taken home. The second brother meets a similar fate when he injures his foot. Simpleton, sent out with a burned biscuit cooked in the ashes of the hearth and soured beer, is generous with the little old man, who turns the biscuit and beer into a proper cake and fine wine. The Six Servants (German: ''Die sechs Diener'') is a German fairy tale collected by the Brothers Grimm and published in ''Grimm's Fairy Tales'' (KHM 134). It is of Aarne-Thompson type 513A ("Six Go through the Whole World"). Synopsis An evil Queen is a sorceress who has a beautiful princess daughter. She offers her hand in marriage, but all suitors have to fulfill impossible tasks. None of them ever managed to bring those to a good end, so she has all who failed beheaded. One day, a prince hears about the princess and wants to compete to win her hand. "How Six Made Their Way in the World" (german: Sechse kommen durch die ganze Welt, KHM 71) is a Grimms' fairy tale about an ex-soldier and his five companions with special abilities who through their feats obtain all of the king's wealth. Klezmer Conservatory Band
The Klezmer Conservatory Band is a Boston-based group which performs traditional klezmer music; it was formed by Hankus Netsky of the New England Conservatory of Music in 1980. Originally formed for a single concert, they have gone on to release eleven albums. Netsky is the grandson and nephew of traditional klezmer musicians. He was inspired by jam sessions with Irish musicians to attempt something with klezmer music. He recruited many of the musicians from the New England Conservatory of Music's Third Stream department with the majority having jazz or folk backgrounds. In 1988, the band featured in a documentary on klezmer called ''A Jumpin Night in the Garden of Eden''. Robin McLaurin Williams (July 21, 1951August 11, 2014) was an American actor and comedian.
