"The Floor" is a song by American singer-songwriter Johnny Gill from his fourth studio album, '' Provocative'' (1993). The track, a dance and funk song, was written and produced by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis and was released as the lead single from ''Provocative'' on May 4, 1993, through the Motown label. American band Mint Condition performs the "floor" chants on the song, with member Stokley providing additional background vocals. Upon its release, "The Floor" peaked at number 56 on the US ''Billboard'' Hot 100 and became a top-40 hit in Australia and New Zealand. In Australia, it was certified gold for shipping over 35,000 copies. The song's music video, directed by English video director Julien Temple, features Gill and his backup dancers on a smoky dance floor built like a trampoline. ''Provocative'' is the fourth album by American R&B recording artist Johnny Gill. It was his second album for Motown Records and fourth album overall. Three singles were released from the album with music videos. The first single, " The Floor", was accompanied by a music video directed by Julien Temple. Temple previously directed the music video "Fairweather Friend" from Gill's previous album. The second single "I Got You" was directed by Sanji. The video for the third single "Long Way From Home" was directed by Wayne Isham. ''Provocative'' was certified Gold by the RIAA on August 11, 1993. The Canadian dance chart was first known to be published on November 13, 1976 by ''RPM'' magazine under the name ''Top 30 Disco Playlist''. The song which held the number-one spot on this first chart was "Keep It Comin' Love / I'm Your Boogie Man" by KC and the Sunshine Band. No chart was published from January 1980 until September 3, 1988. The final archived chart was under the name ''Top 30 Dance'' and was published on October 16, 2000, three weeks before the magazine ceased publication. Taco Ockerse (born 21 July 1955), known mononymously as Taco, is an Indonesian-Dutch singer and entertainer who started his career in Germany. Early life Taco Ockerse was born in Jakarta, Indonesia, on 21 July 1955, he spent many of his childhood years moving around the world, residing in the Netherlands, the United States, Singapore, Luxembourg, Belgium, and Germany.
