Francis Ford (actor)
Francis Ford (born Francis Joseph Feeney; August 14, 1881 – September 5, 1953) was an American film actor, writer and director. He was the mentor and elder brother of film director John Ford. He also appeared in many of the latter's movies, including ''Young Mr. Lincoln'' (1939) and ''The Quiet Man'' (1952). Biography Ford was born in Portland, Maine. He was the son of John Augustine Feeney, who was born in the village of Spiddal, County Galway, Ireland, on June 15, 1854. His mother was Barbara "Abbey" Curran. By 1878, John had moved to Portland, Maine, and opened a saloon, at 42 Center Street, that used a false front to pose as grocery store. John opened four others in following years. For films in which any portion of the footage remains (including trailers), see List of incomplete or partially lost films. Reasons for loss Films may go missing for a number of reasons. One major contributing factor is the common use of nitrate film until the early 1950s. This type of film is highly flammable, and there have been several devastating fires, such as the Universal Pictures fire in 1924, the 1937 Fox vault fire and the 1965 MGM vault fire. Black-and-white film prints judged to be otherwise worthless were sometimes incinerated to salvage the meager scrap value of the silver image particles in their emulsions. Films have disappeared when production companies went bankrupt. Occasionally, a studio would remake a film and destroy the earlier version. Peggy O'Day
Peggy O'Day (born Genevieve Berte, June 16, 1900 - November 25, 1964) was an American actress, film editor, screenwriter, and stuntwoman active during the 1920s and 1930s. She was sometimes credited under her birth name. and she is often confused with fellow silent-era actress Peggy O'Dare. Biography O'Day was born in Ohio to Harry Berte and Maude Hopkins. Her father was a professional baseball player. She was raised in Kentucky and Missouri, and was the couple's only child. She said that she grew up poor, and she later gave donations to children's charities as an adult. O'Day moved to Los Angeles in her teens to begin her career as an actress and found work as a Christie bathing beauty. In 1921, she rejected an offer to join the Orpheum circuit as a vaudeville star. After appearing in comedies early in her career, she quickly developed a reputation as an accomplished horse rider and pioneering stuntwoman in Westerns.
