The Fifth Seal
''The Fifth Seal'' ( hu, Az ötödik pecsét) is a 1976 film by Hungarian director Zoltán Fábri based on the 1963 novel with the same name by Hungarian author Ferenc Sánta. It won the Golden Prize at the 10th Moscow International Film Festival and it was entered into the 27th Berlin International Film Festival. Zoltán Fábri
Zoltán Fábri (15 October 1917 – 23 August 1994) was a Hungarian film director and screenwriter. His films '' The Boys of Paul Street'' (1969) and ''Hungarians'' (1978) were nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. His 1965 film ''Twenty Hours'' shared the Grand Prix with ''War and Peace'' at the 4th Moscow International Film Festival. His 1969 film ''The Toth Family'' was entered into the 7th Moscow International Film Festival. His 1975 film '' 141 Minutes from the Unfinished Sentence'' was entered into the 9th Moscow International Film Festival, where he won a Special Prize for Directing. Life and career Fábri wanted to become an artist from an early age on. He studied painting and graduated at the Hungarian College of Fine Arts. Hungary has submitted films for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film every year since 1965. Only France has a longer unbroken streak entering the Foreign Oscar competition. The Best Foreign Language Film Award is handed out annually by the United States Academy Award for Best International Feature Film to a feature-length motion picture produced outside the United States that contains primarily non-English dialogue. Hungary's submission is selected annually by a Selection Committee of esteemed film professionals. Hungarian films have been nominated for Oscar awards ten times, and István Szabó's ''Mephisto'' won an Oscar. Hungarian films were nominated six times in eleven years, between 1978 and 1988. This is a list of submissions to the 49th Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film. The Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film was created in 1956 by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to honour non-English-speaking films produced outside the United States. The award is handed out annually, and is accepted by the winning film's director, although it is considered an award for the submitting country as a whole. Countries are invited by the Academy to submit their best films for competition according to strict rules, with only one film being accepted from each country. For the 49th Academy Awards, twenty-four films were submitted in the category Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.
