''The Fiddler's Dream'' is a folk / folk-rock album by Dransfield, a short-lived group principally comprising the Dransfield brothers, Robin and Barry. Originally released as an LP in 1976 by Transatlantic, catalogue number TRA 322, featuring cover illustrations by Paul Ellis. The album was produced by Brian Harrison and recorded at Livingstone Studio, Barnet during March and April 1976. Engineer was Nic Kinsey. Transatlantic Records
Transatlantic Records was a British independent record label. The company was established in 1961, primarily as an importer of American folk, blues and jazz records by many of the artists who influenced the burgeoning British folk and blues boom. Within a few years, the company had started recording British and Irish artists. The company's philosophy was intentionally eclectic. History The label was founded by Englishman Nat Joseph who started the company at the age of 21 after visiting the US and realizing that there was a wealth of recorded music that was unavailable in the UK. Transatlantic licensed recordings from the US, such as the jazz labels Prestige and Riverside and the Tradition folk music label. From the outset, many of the covers included photography and design by Brian Shuel. Barry Dransfield
Barry Dransfield (born 1947 in Harrogate, West Riding of Yorkshire), is an English folk singer, fiddler, cellist and guitarist. He has appeared as a session musician on numerous albums by other artists, and has released his own albums as well. ''The Rout of the Blues'' (1971) was voted ''Melody Maker'' folk album of the year. His 1972 album for Polydor simply called ''Barry Dransfield'' was voted the rarest folk album in ''Record Hunter'', worth approximately £400. Unlike most fiddlers (but like some Appalachian players) he is comfortable playing in the "off the chest" position, instead of under the chin. In 1969 Barry and his brother Robin Dransfield were invited by Ashley Hutchings to join the group which would become Steeleye Span, but turned the offer down. Together with his brother Robin, he was a member of a bluegrass/old-time band while still in his teens. Always innovative, he generally avoids electric instruments.
