The Feather is an award for a person within the Dutch music industry who has made an outstanding contribution to the Dutch music product in the past year. The Feather is awarded on an annual basis during the European music conference and showcase festival Eurosonic Noorderslag in Groningen. Dutch Music Industry
The Netherlands has multiple musical traditions. Contemporary Dutch popular music is heavily influenced by music styles that emerged in the 1950s, in the United Kingdom and United States. The style is sung in both Dutch and English. Some of the latter exponents, such as Golden Earring and Shocking Blue, have attained worldwide fame. Sometimes partly based and raised upon the tradition of indie rock, new acts with a mixture of Mainstream pop music, Dance, Jazz, Funk and Soul emerged in the mid-1980s. Many of them were and still are performing in and/or outside The Netherlands, and some of them gained (international) recognition, which would sometimes also result in a collaboration with major players from the United States or United Kingdom. Eurosonic Noorderslag
Eurosonic Noorderslag is an annual four-day music showcase festival and conference held in January in Groningen, Netherlands. The first three days of the festival (Eurosonic) feature artists from all over Europe, the last day of the festival (Noorderslag) features only Dutch artists. The conference is held during all four days of the event. Several awards are presented during Eurosonic Noorderslag: the Music Moves Europe Talent Awards, the European Festivals Awards, the Buma Cultuur Pop Award (''Popprijs''), the Pop Media Award (''Pop Media Prijs''), The Feather (''De Veer''), the "Iron Venue and Festival Animals" (''Ijzeren Podiumdieren'') and the Buma Music Meets Tech Award. Groningen (city)
Groningen (; gos, Grunn or ) is the capital city and main municipality of Groningen province in the Netherlands. The ''capital of the north'', Groningen is the largest place as well as the economic and cultural centre of the northern part of the country; as of December 2021, it had 235,287 inhabitants, making it the sixth largest city/municipality of the Netherlands and the second largest outside the Randstad. Jerney Kaagman
Christina Henriette'' "Jerney"'' Kaagman (born July 9, 1947) is a Dutch singer-musician and music executive best known as the lead singer for the progressive rock group Earth and Fire, with whom she scored a slew of international hits between 1969 and 1990. She recorded as a solo artist also, and after her career, as a singer worked for the music industry, as president of the Dutch musicians' union BV Pop; as a public relations manager for a radio station; and on television, as a judge on television talent show '' Idols''. Career Kaagman attended high school at Huygens Lyceum, Voorburg and was a member of the school choir and a school band, The Rangers. She also completed a secretarial course. In September 1969 she was invited to sing in the pop group Earth and Fire. After the band split in 1983, she made two solo albums and appeared in the first issue of Dutch ''Playboy'' (May 1983).
